The Chandler (Ariz.) High five-star traveled perhaps the farthest to compete and did a nice job, throwing with accuracy and rhythm, making off-platform throws, and being consistent at all stations earning a spot among the top performers.

As much as college coaches love Mencl for what he can do physically, they also covet his intangibles as a leader, the high football IQ, and being a terrific teammate. Four schools have moved to the front of the pack in Oregon, Auburn, Miami and Penn State. His family is finalizing spring visits to each campus. A college decision would likely come soon after those trips.

“Relationships is the No. 1 thing in deciding a school and then not rushing the process,” Mencl said. “Making sure I’m making the right decision and not second-guessing myself so when it feels right, pull the trigger.”

Mencl used to live in South Florida and is excited about the way things are going with Miami.

“Like I said with Auburn, you can’t argue results,” Mencl said. “With what Cam Ward did and what Carson Beck did and what Darian Mensah is about to do I feel like that is really difficult to argue. And then my relationship with Coach (Shannon) Dawson is really strong and Coach (Mario) Cristobal I talk to him once a week on the FaceTime with him.”

This kid might be the final straw for Dillingham at ASU. He has been recruiting him for years and he can’t get ASU his top group in the spring of junior season.

Dillingham has been low-key complaining lack of NIL resources for awhile. He might just jump at next good opportunity that opens.

Chandler (Ariz.) High quarterback Will Mencl has quickly become one of the most sought-after signal-callers in America.

At this point in the process, four schools have his attention the most.

Oregon is setting the pace with Auburn, Miami and Penn State in position to make a move once he visits in the spring.

Miami is coming on strong for Mencl.

“I used to live in South Florida,” Mencl said. He moved out to Arizona after the eighth grade football season. “That’s where I started to fall in love with football.

“The culture they have, I’m someone big on culture. Miami knows exactly who they are. If you’re not with it they don’t worry about it. They have a moxie to them I really like.”

Mencl also likes the style of play.

“The numbers they put up,” he said. “You can’t argue with the results with Cam Ward, Carson Beck and what Darian Mensah is about to do. The pure passers they develop. They have guys that can extend with their legs but are looking to be pocket guys and move the ball downfield with pace.”

Mencl is coming off a junior season where he completed over 70 percent of his passes for 3,815 yards and 33 touchdowns to just five interceptions. He added another 741 yards rushing and 17 more scores.
I like that mindset!! Go get him Mario
