Wiley & Smith and Toure & Pruitt

I doubt Mario & Heatherman will ignore whatever it is they see on game tape. The handwringing about who should play more by the message board coaches seems silly.

Stanford threw the sink in terms of play calling that negated defensive aggression. It’s not like Warren was standing back there all day and picking apart the defense. Miami gave up like two or three chunk running plays.
Agreed. Coaches play guys they trust & what they see in practice & games. There’s a reason why 9 is on the field more than younger guys. Maybe it changes as the season goes on, but assume coaches have more intel than those of us in the stands or in front of our TVs.

I didn't say he was, but he doesn't have the "protypical build"
Not debating I do ageee . The issue with those big build guys smith , toure all that muscle makes you slow imo trainers need to understand rb , lbs can’t lose speed . To me Pringle looks slower this year

I thought Pringle got a little dinged up was it against FAMU? IIRC, he caught a pass and when he got tackled his feet got tangled and maybe he tweaked an ankle. I do hope we see more of Marcelin, Bonner, Wiley, and Pruitt, those guys bring some athleticism & speed imo. I don't mind seeing Toure or Smith on 1st or 2nd down, but those guys are liabilities in the pass game.

I like smith at de he would be good . Pringle either is hurt or he lost his explosion . If he’s hurt take him off kick off team and let him heal . Put upshaw or spafford back their

The thing about Toure, is that he's a very old player.

There's not much upside with him as he's pretty already maxed out his ability.

Playing younger players has a two-fold net+ gain, they're more athletically inclined & can make plays that a slower/older player can't make, they get experience with more reps & can grow exponentially throughout the year.

Toure in week 0, is going to be the same Toure in week 12, good or bad.

Marcelin, Pruitt etc, on the other hand have the chance to be much better than what they already are by the end of the season with more opportunities.

I get you give up experience with decreasing Toure's & Smith's snaps, but there is no amount of experience that can supplement for lack of foot speed & lateral movement.

The TD Toure gave up was nothing but pure Athlete vs Athlete & the younger faster guy won.

Marcelin most certainly has earned more reps.

I’m actually surprised he’s been used in coverage as much as he has. I always thought he was a good blitzer and used off the edge on pass downs but going backwards is not his strength. Chase either.

When D$ pulled out the old Smith has gotten faster bar I knew we were cooked.

Toure has a 5* brother at Columbus. Outside of Mensah and Toney his reps are probably the safest on the team. I'm sure he is primary play caller.

Some of you just can’t get past your PTSD. We have Heatherman. Not Shannon, not NoD, not Diaz. This guy is elite and he will get this defense performing better. He will make adjustments in scheme and in personnel. He’s not a coach that is stuck in his way. What stand out to my amateur eye is that our pass rush will not be at same level as last year. Thorton is not the playmaker that Scott was. Those two things made our defense hum last year. So now that is on game tape, what adjustments can be made. I would say less soft zone for one. And I am sure Coach H has many other adjustments he will make. I would say the floor for this defense is top 20 and the ceiling is top 15. If we can get closer to the ceiling and paired with this offense, we cook.
I believe we are overreacting on the defense. They tightened up when they had to at the end. I trust Heyherman to figure this out and we desperately need those 3 injured CBs on field. Type are big Time players.. Let’s not forget how much hype was coming from Lucas after his freshmen All American season. And OJ has NFL level skills if he can stay on the field. Slime is as good in man as OJ.
