Wiley & Smith and Toure & Pruitt

The LB development has been questionable at best. Smith is a shell and honestly isn't very good. Dude can't move. Toure isn't great in the pass game but he is a stud against the run and blitzing. Young guys need to step up and take that spot from Smith.
Smith looked excellent against the run, I don’t know what game you’re watching because that’s flat out not true.

Surely we all agree that Heatherman got the most out of last year's defense. Stellar job. Godsend. Given his credibility, it makes me wonder why Marcelin was 1st off the bench, followed by Bonner and Pruitt? At least that's what I saw. Wiley in for mop-up duty.

No doubt, Wiley performed impressively in Palo Alto. We all saw it. And I get that there's been sentiment for Pruitt getting more playing time, 2 years running now. This a little harder for me to understand, given what my eyes have seen. I also get that the starters aren't elite. So why does Heatherman believe Toure and Smith are the best options, at least for now? And why was the aforementioned Wiley reportedly taking reps at DE, even given, or perhaps because of 'wow factor' athleticism/talent? Just trying to connect dots without speaking of things I have no knowledge of (Greentree daily reps). Some poster sentiment sounds like arguments for the backup QB in a quarterback controversy. Guess I'll continue to defer to Heatherman.

I doubt Mario & Heatherman will ignore whatever it is they see on game tape. The handwringing about who should play more by the message board coaches seems silly.

Stanford threw the sink in terms of play calling that negated defensive aggression. It’s not like Warren was standing back there all day and picking apart the defense. Miami gave up like two or three chunk running plays.

This is his first real PT.. get this guy more reps and tell him I know you been bigger than your opponents all your life but at this level we got to wrap up, beat it into his head and let him grow..

I think it’s funny how some of you decide who should start and who shouldn’t after 1 game. How about letting the season play out and letting the cream rise to the top? There’s plenty of time to iron out all the kinks. And, it was game 1, traveling cross country. We got 15 more games to go. Guys will either get better or get passed up by the talent behind them. It’ll be fine either way.

Relax, people. We have a special football team. Try to enjoy it. It hasn’t been this way in a long, long time.
Bro this wasn’t chase smiths first game… lol… he is a good backup, but he doesn’t have the upside an A1 d needs. He isn’t as good as Wes and Wes isn’t good enough to make an NFL roster. Wiley has that type of upside.

I don't think any of the other linebackers provide a complete upgrade to #1 & #9 which is why those two will continue to start.

Staff needs to recruit linebackers from another state.

If that’s so, Wiley will end up being the guy. I’m just not gonna throw a guy out after the season opener, playing in a game where we flew across the country and played on west coast time. That can make someone a bit sluggish.

Yeah I guess that someone was chase. Not sure you checked the stats but Wiley had more tackles than chase did and played 2 quarters less.

Hope we see a ton of reps with the young guys next week. Give Mo and Chase the first quarter to stay sharp and then let the young guys cook and get the reps in.

So Toure gets beat on a touchdown pass and had the Wake Forest player dead to rights and can’t wrap up the tackle on a fourth down

I don’t know what the answer is for the linebacker room, but if Miami is really really serious about making it to Las Vegas, which I know they are then they need to have a honest self reflection on number one and number nine as your starting linebackers, they’re both turds
