We need mark pope to continue to step up, even in his small glimpses I like what he’s shown the most out of that young group(Harley, Wiggins, pope). We also need Payton to have a big spring to take one of the Starting jobs at receiver in addition to pope. I hope Redding has a big spring as well.

I’m not seeing it with Harley and Wiggins however as long term starting receivers. They have struggled mightily to get open as starting receivers in each of the last 3 games including 2 games vs group of 5 teams which absolutely can’t happen.

Harley is a good #3 receiver i honestly believe that.

Pope ******* sucks but maybe he can learn the position...MAYBE

Our WR group will depend on Payton next year as a #1

I dont Think pope sucks whatsoever. He was grossly misutilized as a freshman and him not being an early enrollee that year hurt him in his development. He flashed alittle this year as he got more playing time imo but still wasn’t used as well as he should have been. Imo he has a chance of being our most explosive guy going foward

He ******* sucks at the following:

Hands
Route running
Toughness
Breakaway speed

And Blocking

Other than that he has shown flashes on WR screens

For the last 2 years, I stated our WR group was vastly overrated and they are. Lets see who comes back:

- Harley lacks the top end speed or wiggle you need from the tiny midget size he is (not hating, just sayin). Runs awkwards as **** too. Should be a back-up slot WR
- Pope is still living off his 5 stars from HS. Look at just his college play and you see a guy whose tiny with decent speed and wiggle. Poor mans JT maybe at best. More like a 3 star talent
- Wiggins has shown more upside to me than Harley/Pope but is inconsistent. Needs to seriously bulk up (they all do) and work on his hands. Dude can fly at least. Baffles me we didnt go deep to him at all during FIU, Duke, La Tech.
- Payton is unknown. Pray he's a beast and can take Osborns spot as a tough possession type

Who am i missing here? Unless the freshman/Payton can ball this group will be a serious weakness in 2020. Need a another Osborn grad transfer type desperately

I want to see the coaching staff try out Lingard at WR in the spring, especially if DJ Dallas comes back next season. He has the size and athleticism to be a potential big time playmaker at the position. Can't let a guy as physically gifted as Lingard transfer or rot on the bench. He has to see the field in some capacity.

You’re forgetting about one mister Tater Tot

Our QBs are a disaster but they have no one to throw to either. There’s a reason N’Kosi was only finding Mallory in the 4th.

This offense is gonna stay bad before ever having a chance to become good

Someone is gonna have to step up to that true number 1 receiver role next year. Was supposed to be Thomas and he never took it. We haven't had it since Ahmmon's freshman year.

My guess is it'll have to be Payton or Redding. The rest are nice complimentary pieces if someone steps up...especially in a spread or air raid where its more simplistic and pre-determined. I'm not all that high on Redding so better hope its Payton, who barely played, or a grad xfer.

In the few times we saw him looked like Lo lacked lateral agility to me. More like just a straight line speed guy. Might be why he cant get on the field. Doubt he would be a good WR but idk

We use a spread concept and all three will improve drastically. Actually any concept that isn't similar to Richt's or Penos would benefit them. Yost or Gleason hire would be a homerun. A Brady hire would be a grand slam.

So Mark Pope last night on that INT in the 4th quarter was either a bad route by Pope or a throw Nkosi thought was suppose to be an out and not a post. (WHO RUNS A PIST ROUTE THAT CLOSE TO THE SIDLINE). With that being said the way some say Pope has had problems picking up the play book I'm more inclined with Pope running the wrong route which is not what a big time WR do!!

Not much to work with here in the upperclassmen, hopefully Payton and Redding are as advertised. Also Looks like we’re going to need to hit the portal again.

Agreed. I was blasted here for saying that we'd miss Cager... and clearly we did. We don't have a big body possession guy to go to in a critical situation.
Hightower 6'3, Njoku almost 6'7 and Mallory is a glorified WR - all of them did nothing all year. Call me crazy, but I don't think Cager would have solved a single thing

I'm far from an expert but I think they have struggled to consistently beat man coverage. I don't know if this a product concept of routes we run or just that our recievers dont run good routes or talent.
