Why were we throwing the homerun ball

Beck has thrown very very few good go balls the entire season so not a clue why we would want to do it then. No matter if Toney was open or not it’s his weakest throw in his entire ****nal.
Stack and get free release we scorched them on it

Beck thought “I’m taking a shot on first” then threw into double coverage with no pressure.

Dawson and Mario did an incredible job of game planning away from Beck.

there was plenty of time and their DB are obviously defending the endzone. If marion runs a square in the middle is wide open. Why go for the jugular in that spot when we could have worked our way down to the endzone?
I honestly think Beck was seeing stars and just made a bad throws.

Cvr2 and Carson made a horrendous decision.

He had Marion for that brief second...the window was tight and the coverage was excellent...and he noodled it. But he had Marion for a brief moment and his eyes got wide.

His worst throw since the Louisville game

Forced it. Absolutely forced it

Yup. He really can’t drive the football down the field. That ball, if you’re gonna throw it, has to be a rope way more vertical and to the outside. I don’t think it was a horrible decision. We didn’t need it, but it’s not like it was total blanket coverage. Marion is in the hole. He just doesn’t have that throw in his bag and I don’t understand why you try it knowing that and more importantly not needing it. It’s first down. ****, even if you do hit it you give them a ton of time to come back and score. 52 seconds, that’s a ball you throw it there’s 22 seconds.

Just hate that it ends like that for him. All the haters are piling on, of course, because it’s another pick for him in a big spot. But I’d have loved to have seen it play out if he just continues to do what was working the whole half.

I’ll replay it back in my head 1000 times going forward, which is about 11 billion fewer than Beck will.

Hate it for him. He played really well for 99% of the season, and it was set up for an all-time moment. Under 2 mins left, down 6, you’ve got the ball and you’re on your home field. We had 52 seconds, and we were chewing them up in the short and intermediate game. Almost a mirror image of Louisville. It was first down, you just don’t need to take that shot. Marion also isn’t even looking for the ball. It’s badly under thrown and if your WR isn’t looking to be able to come back to it, game over. Would’ve loved to have just kept chipping away, we’re in plus territory with plenty of time.

Really hurts, man. I can’t imagine how he feels right now. Just got a little too greedy when you don’t have to. But **** what a special moment that could’ve been for him and the team and all of us. The **** you dream as a kid. ****.
Good point on Marion not looking. Makes you think Marion knew he was supposed to suck that CB and S deep in order for Beck to work the middle. If Marion was primary on that play he would have been looking back at Beck after about 8-10 yards - and would have been in position to try and comeback and break that up....Not mad at 11 - just sucks...

taking one step further, scoring too fast was also a bad idea cause all they need is a FG to win. We should have drove the ball down more methodically. the short passing game to toney or CJ was working. Also where were the throws to the RB?

We had one on that drive. Brown caught a check down and broke a tackle and got 11 yards. We started the drive great, of course after a delay of game off a timeout, which can’t happen. But you get the roughing call gift, and then you start cooking.

Marty for 11 on a check down
Mali on another insane catch for 7
Nice easy throw to the outside to CJ for a first down

You have plenty of time, it’s 1st and 10 with 52 seconds left.

There is no way that was what was called.
I refuse to believe any OC could be that dumb, even in highschool or your local gym teacher would know better.
Let’s imagine he was NOT DOUBLE covered, and that terribly under thrown ball hits its mark and we score. We then leave Indiana with 50 seconds, and a timeout to win the game with a FIELD GOAL with one of the best kickers in the country. We would have probably lost anyway. 50 seconds a time out to get 35 to 40 yards and then field goal I’d highly probable.
That was all on Beck, and I’d be willing to bet my house on it. Beck in his infinite wisdom decides he want to play hero and throws into double coverage. Beck has always been unclutch. That’s his biggest problem, not his ability or play, but as a coach you just know he’ll find a way to **** it up. Becks ego and stupidity lost them the game.

I really hope so… that deep ball hasn’t been his game all season.

Why play hero ball when your on their side with 50 seconds to go on 1st down… it wasn’t the **** time

Yup should have taken ten yard chunks and win in w ten seconds

Even if we score
Mendoza would have had 45 seconds
And the way they hit fade they would have got in fg range

I was there and it was in front of me.

The play was to Baumann. He was streaking open. He made a bad choice, and sadly threw a bad ball.

Heartbreaking. I was convinced we were going to win.
Bauman was on the other side of the field in bunch formation.

He clearly misread the safety, and the corner was able to undercut the ball. **** happens. He was going to have to a take a chance at some point in that drive to get a TD. He had a great year and fought his *** off till the end.
