Why was Butch Davis so avg at UNC with more draft picks than

I'm definitely in the camp with the OP. I have lots of questions about what Butch could really do here. I know all of us remember the unreal run from 2000 through 2001 but that's a once in a lifetime type of thing. Some of the posters on this board are forgetting about what an awful game day coach Butch was back in the day. Count me in the camp of not being completely sold on Butch being the guy especially with the UNC stats as posted above.

Also he beat florida state twice at UNC and us 3 times, along with multiple ranked teams. So for you do say Al did better is a disgrace.

go listen to his interview on 790 from yesterday. First time I was excited about canes football in idk how long. The man is hungry, the man wants it.

The OP is a troll. Joined this month, 2 dozen posts. Like Fraulden, he likes to cherry pick the argument. Here's the bottom line.

Butch Davis built the greatest team in football history; began repeating that at UNC; wants to work for us.

1. Who you got that's better than Butch?
2. Who you got that's equal to Butch?
3. Fuggetabouit!

 
I don't understand the butch love either. Keep that dude away. He had his time and now it's time for something else.

That season was setting up to be a monstor before the suspensions. He still managed to beat Clemson ,FSU and Tennessee.
 
The man looks all world, but the answer in football is al ways the same. Look at who Butch had as quarterback. We started rolling here when we had an efficient Qb

A top 10 team you say? I know one of those up voters has mentioned time and again our departed coaches record about beating teams that finished the season ranked. Considering such, why would he up vote being ranked when Butch never had UNC ranked at season's end.

Yes, that's right, the chosen one (the hype this guy is getting as some sort of saviour reminds me of that QB who's no longer here from a couple of years ago), never had UNC ranked at season's end. I'm sure there's some excuse for that though.

I'm still wondering why you up voted that post.

Never won the Coastal.

Never finished the season ranked.

Never won over 8 games at UNC.

Never finished better than 3rd (both times he tied for 3rd) in the Coastal. Did that twice while finishing 4th twice.

He had a losing conference record, 15-17.

So how is he this God some want to portray him as? People say he'll assemble this awesome staff, why didn't that happen at UNC?

Take the name Butch out of it, forget ancient history, and look at what he did most recently. Is that a guy who should be getting all this hype? I think not, but maybe he's turned a new leaf right?

It was UNC bro. You may have talented players but its still UNC. And they can never get the depth Miami has or will get. Show me the perfect coaching candidate.....
 
Butch is the best in terms of developing talent. That's what we need. Remember about 5 of his assistants went on to become head coaches so he probably needed help on that staff at unc

Butch was made for THE U. It is actually that simple.

UNC is not THE U. THE U is not UNC. It is a Cane thing and I guess you just wouldn't understand.

Yet strangely Al got worse. The mark of a really bad coach. Butch will do very nicely with Brad. If kid stays for 4th year, Butch gets a ring.

First off it's not a fact, it's an opinion. The "talent" that was left at Miami by Butch won a NC, should've competed for one, and lost a 3rd for a flag. I DON'T KNOW WHAT WORLD YOU LIVE IN TO SAY UNC HAD MORE TALENT. Maybe the players graded out higher for NFL coaches but it wasn't more talented by any means of your imagination. The NFL numbers speak for themselves in terms of Pro Bowls about the talent on those Miami teams.

And if you want a complete "What did he do at UNC", just go to his Wiki page. He gave them B2B bowl appearances for the 1st time since the 1997-98 season, actually beat an opponent that finished in the top 25. Had them ranked in the BCS for the 1st time ever. That's just a few things to name along with their 2nd winning record in 12 years. He did that ALL at a basketball school.
