Why the University of Miami Has a Playoff Caliber Defensive Line

Every starting defensive lineman and a few backups made plays in the backfield against, what has been reported as one of the best offensive lines in the Nation. Notre Dame had its hands full all night. The way the D line shut down the run and then closed out the game with back to back sacks, against a playoff team, is evidence that this is a playoff caliber defensive lineman.

Now over the next two games let’s see guys like Russell, Simpson, Lowe, and Pocket get some much needed game experience and continue their development. Hopefully Jones and McConathy can get healthy soon.

For anyone to not be excited about David Blay, is crazy to me.

David Blay 2024:
  • 2024 Stats: 46 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks at NT taking on multiple blockers nearly every down
  • First Team All Conference USA
  • All-American (Phil Steele Honorable Mention)

When is the last time Miami had a First Team All Conference or All American caliber defensive tackle on a the roster? Go watch him play Arkansas and NC State, you will understand just how impactful Blay can be.

When your two top tacklers are DL, you generally have an beastly defense.

Just hope we stay relatively healthy. The only spot on defense that seems to have plenty of depth is (ironically) CB.
