Why is the goal to win the Coastal?

I have no problem with winning the Coastal as a goal as long as we actually achieve that goal. But this staff has been a long string of failures. I expect them to fail once again.

This is big boy football. Achieve your goals or get out of the way.

That should never be a goal at UM. Minimum goal is winning the ACC. To win the ACC you have to win the Coastal. However, if you win the Coastal you don't have to win the ACC.

Because Folden's the consummate shyster, and he's trying to keep milking that flowing UM teet. Best way he can do that is by adjusting expectations down as low as possible and convincing the rubes in the fanbase and the trust fund weasels running UM that meeting those lowly goals should be celebrated.

You can see that the lowly Coastal goal has actually gained traction with the local dimwitted media and the chinstrap nation. I've seen more than one media moron tout that all of our goals are still reachable and that merely winning what is, by far, the worst division in Power 5 will be some sort of commendable accomplishment in year 5 that should result in the continued flow of UM ****y milk to Baby Archie's fat mouth.

Chin strap nation. Dying

Because then Golden can argue at the end of the year "Hey look, we accomplished our goal as a team. I deserve another year."

Golden is the type of guy who likes to set low expectations so when he exceeds them, he can use that to his defense.

Sad part is, he has yet to exceed those low expectations he set.

I don't think Golden wants anther year here, but would like to be able to get another job somewhere.

This is for the Butch Davis crowd.
''Our goal at the beginning of the season was to win the conference and go to a major bowl game,'' Covington said. ''So in that respect the Syracuse game is more important. But to be one of the few games on television, to be able to spoil someone's bid for a national championship -- that's the biggest game. Either way we can't lose.''

Another gem....
``When teams set their goals at the beginning of the season, I would venture to say almost every one of them hope to find themselves in a situation like this,'' Miami Coach Butch Davis said. ``Players have individual goals, but as a team, from our standpoint, an opportunity to play for the conference championship is one of the starting goals.''

I think you're missing the difference in philosophy.

I'd like to see dueling banners on Saturday: "Fire Al Golden" trailed by the university version, "Win the Coastal"

We're not even at the baby step phase. We're at the crawl stage. Dreaming about the playoff is way premature. It's premature for a Memphis, and they're a **** of a lot closer.

They're just setting expectations. They don't want to fire him, so if they set the bar low they can use the fact that he reached their goal as a reason why they keep him. They also think we're idiots, hence BJs comments after last season regarding how much improvement the team made (just not in the W column).

They're not going to fire him unless he completely ***** the bed.
