Why is the goal to win the Coastal?

this is actually one thing I don't have a huge problem with. you cant win the conference or make the playoff without winning your own **** division. golden just sucks so bad he cant even accomplish this small feat.

You're right that we can't win a championship/make the playoff without winning our own division, but we can win our own division and not win a championship/make the playoff.

Since this is the University of Miami, a place that measures success with rings, just winning our division is not the bar that should be set.

Winning our division should be an implied goal when a competent coach who understands the legacy of football greatness at the University of Miami rightly sets the bar for success at how we measure success -- winning a championship.

Anything less is a failure.

As a high school coach our goal is to win the State Championship, but that being said we start with the goal of being the number one seed in our district, then to win the district, then to win the region, and then win the state title. I think the goal of winning the coastal is fine. If our only goal is to win the national title, then what do our guys have left to play for. By setting up small goals, it lends itself to the big picture goal of playing for a national title. We win the coastal, we play for the ACC title, we win the ACC title, we play in a major bowl. That's how it works. I think we all are looking for reasons not to like the guy or to make sure the guy is fired. We don't need to invent reasons, there are enough legitimate gripes to warrant his being fired at the end of the year.

Your Team will never win State! Just tell them Not To Rise To The Occasion!

Cause if you win the coastal you could win the ACC which you could win your playoff game and ultimately could win the championship

Because Folden's the consummate shyster, and he's trying to keep milking that flowing UM teet. Best way he can do that is by adjusting expectations down as low as possible and convincing the rubes in the fanbase and the trust fund weasels running UM that meeting those lowly goals should be celebrated.

You can see that the lowly Coastal goal has actually gained traction with the local dimwitted media and the chinstrap nation. I've seen more than one media moron tout that all of our goals are still reachable and that merely winning what is, by far, the worst division in Power 5 will be some sort of commendable accomplishment in year 5 that should result in the continued flow of UM ****y milk to Baby Archie's fat mouth.

Because Folden knows that winning the Coastal is about the only goal he might accomplish.

Used car salesman.

Make'em Cream, just to be clear I was calling you a used car salesman. I wouldn't call ALbortion that.

That thought didn't cross my mind.

You should have a problem with it. It's like saying, "It's just a game or Life goes on after football."

Seriously? WHO THE ***** DOESN'T KNOW THAT?

At UF, Spurrier used to say it was all about the SEC Title, NOT the freeking SEC East.

You guys keep saying that we'd have to win the division to make the playoff. I don't think that's technically true.

Long shot sure, but we could play a ridiculous ooc, beat FSU, lose 1 game in the division, and not go to the title game if the other team was say a 1 loss VT/GT/UNC with a crap schedule. Then that team get's destroyed in the ACC conf game and there we are... all 1 loss and highly ranked.

It worked for Nebraska in the BCS. (Of course they ended up getting mauled by the greatest CFB team of all time, but you get the point).

When a head coach in his fifth year at an historic program says "we have all our goals in front of us" after a humiliating, unacceptable loss at Cincinnati in the fourth game of the season...it tells you everything about his deliberate attempt to lower expectations. Golden continuously moves the goalposts to try to save his own ***.

Players were brainwashed coming into the season with the Coastal talking point. You heard it in every player interview with the media. Golden knows he can manipulate the incompetent, apathetic board members with his political spin.

Golden is an ******* and so is any fan who feels winning the Coastal is an acceptable goal in Year 5 for any coach at Miami.

Let's be real.... the goal is the coastal, cause ever since we joined the ACC we havent wont s**t!!!! Coker, Shannon, nor Golden has been able to do that.... we had the ACC won in 05 or 06, all we had to do was beat Va Tech..but eddie Royal made out DBs look like crap and we choked.....could have won the Coastal im 2011, but he had to forfeit our bowl game so we were automatically eliminated drom the Coastal.....Im fine with tryin to win the coastal then goin for the ACC title next..but dnt wint the Coastal and take a step back next year, that will definitely cost Golden his job...but that migjt be a good thing that we do win the Coastal this year....so many scenarios

The word "Coastal", in any context, makes me want to go postal.

****....even when we change coaches, I hope we change conferences, so I never have to hear the ****ing word "Coastal" again!

Golden's first initiative if he is retained is to get the canes into the AAC.

Ironically, this year the AAC is tougher than the coastal with Memphis and Houston. The coastal is an abomination of a Power 5 division.

Winning the Coastal should be the consolation.

You start the season with the goal and expectation of winning EVERY game. Assuming you reach that goal, you win the national title.

The second goal is to win your conference. Assuming you do that, you are in a great bowl ... And, possibly, in the playoffs.

If you don't go undefeated, and don't win your conference ... Then, you SETTLE for winning the Coastal.

The fact that this team is ok with a few losses speak to the fact that winning the Coastal is the only goal. And it's been proven, you can do that with a .500 record for the season ...

i.e. - See Georgia Tech, with a 6-6 record.

Shouldn't your goal as a team at the start of every season, no matter the team, be to win all your games and then win a national title?

By setting the bar so low I don't think there is any motivation or realistic push to get there.

I understand building up but it makes no sense. In the process of winning a national title you win the coastal and win the ACC.

What the **** happened from 2010 when Golden proclaimed the point is to win a national championship. I guess this is what happens when your'e coaching staff realizes it ain't ever gonna happen.

Have you not heard? The goal is to NOT rise to the occassion; the goal is to get "better" with each snap. This is the new Miami...we don't play for championships, we play for divisional titles. Welcome to Golden Land.

The goal should NEVER drop to winning the Coastal. The minimum goal is to win the ACC. By stating a goal as winning the Coastal, you are conceding a loss in the ACCCG before the ACCCG is even played.

The goal for this year, should be:

1. National Cahampionship
2. Championship Game
3. National Playoffs
4. ACC Championship
5. Coastal Championship
6. Win every game

If one accomplishes Level 6, all the others are possible. We've already failed level 6. Level 5 is mathematically possible, but unlikely.

Based on the above, Fraulden has been, and continues to be, a COLLOSSAL failure.

Losers need not even try.

So you don't think there isn't any motivation or realistic push to win the coastal and you think less realistic expectations like winning a natty will fix that?

I think if your goal is to make a B minus in a class you are far more likely to make a C than an A. Their goal of winning the coastal just shows how they will spin it if we lose to clemson.

i dont disagree with you on some fronts. the issue I have is that we can still win the ACC but that hasnt been yapped about. All I keep hearing is win the coastal. Obviously you have to win the coastal to win the ACC. Did Ohio State lower the expectation when they lost to va tech last year? No.

As terrible as Golden is, any coach is going to tell you that their first goal is to win the division.

My dream is for the ACC to drop the freakin' divisions. It's just too bad it can't happen before Alfredo gets the boot so the clown can't slip up and still cite winning the effing Coastal.

I have no problem with winning the Coastal as a goal as long as we actually achieve that goal. But this staff has been a long string of failures. I expect them to fail once again.

This is big boy football. Achieve your goals or get out of the way.
