I used to follow recruting, tried to go to high school games to see our future perform. I hated losing prime recruits but loved when a supposed unheralded player turned out great. I usually knew a little about every player before we started the season. I knew some Broward County high school coaches and VHS taped games at Deerfield. Got some good info from those coaches, Met Rod Carter while at Fort Lauderdale High. Off season now is a joke..following recruiting is not satisfying. We've got some highly rated players who get passed over via the NIL players. Our QB room currently is stacked yet I doubt any will ever get to develop. I really loved Chaney, wanted to see him progress and I know...injuries but still hated to see him go to Louisville. Having Cam for one year makes it hard to think of him as a true Hurricane and I really wanted to see Emory develop and the interviews before he arrived at the U of Anderson showed he was a true Cane, recruiting for us so now they sit another year and probably won't even get into mop up situations. Just sit on the bench and now with Nickel there too or they will NIL out. Without the knoledge from following the path of our dedicated recruits who have been life long fans..I could care less if Carson Beck is our QB as he isn't a Cane. He says the right stuff but the path to the U sucks. Its hard to explain the emotions of how the NIL has shaped our team, can't see one year players having the loyalty and dedication to the U explayers like Irvin have.

I think there’s definitely some truth in what you’re saying. Some of what made following college football fun has disappeared. However, It didn’t matter to me last year that Cam was a one-year rental, and I don’t care that Beck is too. When it comes to gameday, I still love seeing the Canes play and love to see them win, even if how the team was formed is not what it was.

It is a brand new world. The sad part is it will still take probably at least another decade or so for them to finally get control of it with all the court cases that will be coming.

And look at you all up on the new tech @fraggle! VHS tapes! I would have pegged you as a Super 8 guy.

Honestly NIL didn’t impact my interest adversely as much as social media did.

Here is one thing that bothers me about NIL. Do you think there is any chance that another QB could beat out Beck? Even though ALL positions will go to the best from practice. The ONLY way we might see a backup is if Beck gets hurt. Okay, if he throws 6 int's against ND maybe they could consider a change. With no stats from practice I wonder if any with permission to watch practice would suggest a backup QB looks head and shoulders better...anyone game???

Buddy I seriously doubt any backup is near Becks level. Maybe Luke next year

Don’t ask us. Who would you suggest can beat out Beck?

Don’t worry we’ll wait for your nap to end.

Honestly get over it. Beck is a Cane!! Imagine going into the season with Emory as our QB 1 maybe looking at 7-5 season. I'm happy kids get a chance to make money. I'm happy we have a chance to improve our team. NIL is now evening the playing field, for years SEC used the bags why other schools didn't. Players will still be developed, but you can make up for misses. Everything changes and evolves we should be happy we have a coach who has embraced the change.

What an oddly aggressive response to someone reflecting on and lamenting the dynamic change of certain aspects within college football... I don't necessarily agree with Beck "not being a cane", but I can see what he's meaning by that with the context he presented it. I think you missed the point of it being more about his personal experience with recruiting and development being altered greatly and less about us adapting with the times.

Sorry I miss the humming sound of a typewriter, and the grainy sound of the album. I'll wax more poetic for times gone by!! Is that better.

Ahh yes, and the sound of a 56k modem, rewinding VHS tapes before returning them to blockbuster, and playing outside until the street lights came on. Yes. That is much better. Thank you.

I wonder what Carson's answer would be if you were to ask him if he wanted to be a CANE in 2019 when we had just been shut out by Louisiana Tech in the Independence Bowl while Alabama and Georgia were tripping over each other trying to convince him he would be next up.

So OP would rather it just go back to the same 4/5 teams competing for the NC every year cause they paid kids under the table/bags. You can already see the talent starting to spread out a little bit with NIL. Pretty sure Cam with rep the U for the rest of his life.

And how is it any different from HS football in Florida where kids jump to different schools every year

I understand but it doesn't bother me at all

. I have no idea why I care so much about college football and Miami, but I want to see the uniforms win - doesn't matter who is wearing them.

I like to see freshmen make plays, kids who have put in the effort for years succeed, all that... but I'll take a team of mercenaries every year if that means Miami beats the **** out of FSU, UF, ND, or any other "big" program.
