Why didn’t 1994 win the NC

Of all the disappointments of years when we should’ve won, this one hurts because it seemed like we had a really complete team.

great defense(Sapp, Lewis, Lang, Holmes, Richardson)

But I cant see a team with Frank Costa winning a title, to be honest. But with that said, without a horrific quarter vs Washington, they could've been playing for a title that year.

I don’t think we would’ve won the Nat’l Championship that yr anyway.

I, too, thought we gave up the title in ‘94 b/c Nebraska won it; but, even if we had beat them, AND WE SHOULD’VE, PSU finished undefeated. We lost to #17 UDub earlier that season, & they finished outside the top 25. I believe the best we finish was #2 & “possibly” a share of the Nat’l title, but highly doubt it since PSU finished undefeated would’ve been a consensus #1 by both The AP & Coaches.

I don’t recall the OL being that good either.

You're probably right. Miami would have had an argument if they beat Nebraska convincingly like they started to do. I remember our D was punishing and I thought it was going to be a route.

Yeah; that was my thought as well. Still an inexcusable loss, b/c we would’ve beat, iirc, 3 top 10 teams that season, 5 top 25 teams in total, including defending Nat’l champions FSU who was a top 3 team, and we beat them convincingly.

We could’ve put some serious pressure on the voters where maybe The AP voted PSU and Coaches voted us. Who knows, b/c we tricked it off, so I sleep easy just saying PSU would’ve been Nat’l Champions due to being undefeated. Lol

Penn st and their high powered offense would have claimed NC that year had Miami beat Nebraska.

It was basically KC Jones and four turnstyles, who were big and lumbering(Zev Lumelski, Ricky Perry, etc). It was your classic Erickson/Gregg Smith Oline that seemed to get worse every year as that staff was at UM

From what I recall, the only two Olineman that were any good that were recruited by Erickson was Jones and Kerlin Blaise.

Seriously, I really began to appreciate Tony Wise(man) who went to Dallas with Jimmy and lead an all-time great Oline

Yeah; that PSU team up points that yr. The only reason I said “may have split” is b/c our SOS beating two top 5 teams in the same season, including the #1 team “could’ve” caused a split in voting, however, I highly doubt that & I’m content w/ knowing win or lose, we weren’t winning the title that yr. Although, how we loss was frustrating & infuriating af.

The offense just wasn’t very good. There was some skill position talent. James Stewart was a good running back. Danyell Ferguson too. Chris T Jones, Jammi German. Good receivers but Costa was not a Miami level quarterback and the offensive line was just garbage. The defense carried the team. Everyone knows Sapp and Ray Lewis but that D line was nasty with Pat Riley, Kennard Lang and Kenny Holmes. But they were already short handed for the Nebraska game and they ran out of gas by the fourth quarter. It didn’t help that the offense kept going three and out over and over

But.... He did.... Ran all over us in the 4th.... Couldn't stop him at all.
Again....ONLY because of our depleted DL...and their OL getting upfield easily...enabling them to snuff out our LBers....I'm not impressed whatsoever...
