Why didn’t 1994 win the NC

If we won, we actually would of split the title with Penn State. The Coaches Poll had an agreement with the Bowl Coalition that the winner of that game would top the Coaches Poll. The Rose Bowl was not part of the coalition so Penn State could not play Nebraska. If we won, we would have won the Coaches Poll while Penn State won the AP poll title.

I, too, thought we gave up the title in ‘94 b/c Nebraska won it; but, even if we had beat them, AND WE SHOULD’VE, PSU finished undefeated. We lost to #17 UDub earlier that season, & they finished outside the top 25. I believe the best we finish was #2 & “possibly” a share of the Nat’l title, but highly doubt it since PSU finished undefeated would’ve been a consensus #1 by both The AP & Coaches.

Yatil Green had an unreal catch at the end of the first half for a TD against Udub. Things were going great and then the second half came and Washington put the beats to the boys.

That is it right there. The Washington loss was inexcusable.

Miami was in control early 3rd quarter when out of nowhere UW executed a well timed screen pass to a rb that went for a long td. UM starting DE Baraka Short from Norland barely missed tipping the pass.

I have always maintained that the taller/more athletic Kenard Lang would have at least deflected the pass. The redshirt Fr Lang was still a backup at the time - but if iirc took over the that DE spot the following game and held it until he left for the NFL.

Hate to burst your bubble, but had we beaten Nebraska, we still weren't winning a share of the title. We lost a real shot at the title when we didn't show up for Washington. Now, had we beaten Nebraska and Penn State lost their bowl, then sure. However, Penn State was undefeated and there is no way in **** we jump them with one loss.

Good receivers but Costa was not a Miami level quarterback and the offensive line was just garbage. The defense carried the team. Everyone knows Sapp and Ray Lewis but that D line was nasty with Pat Riley, Kennard Lang and Kenny Holmes. But they were already short handed for the Nebraska game and they ran out of gas by the fourth quarter. It didn’t help that the offense kept going three and out over and over

I believe Miami was up 17-9 going into the 4th. But yeah, lots of drops that game. And when Osborne decided to go with Tommy Frazier at QB over Brook Berringer, Nebraska came alive. For my money, all the talk of Tebow being the greatest QB college QB, ever, I say Frazier is right up there with him. I actually think he's a more complete player(could throw much better)

But yeah, that defense was put on the field too long. For about 3 quarters, Sapp was superman out there. It was amazing to see
