I think our guys are way above this defense...Kinda like the smartest kid in grade school who keeps bringing home a report card with C's-D's and F's

Haha thanks !

We had Moncur, Ojomo, Marcus Robinson harassing the QB under Shannon. Not one of them got drafted. Its not just the scheme, our guys are not learning any moves and nuances to get the QB. One Patty cake move and if they swim or rip they get benched like Luther Robinson.

It's not the players. It's the coaches and what they're asking the players to do. You can't teach something you fully don't understand.

Sometimes it's the opposite. People that fully understand a subject are inable to impart even the most basic of instruction in it.

Style....your taught to attack man up and play downhill your whole life then in college its sit and wait for the guy on offense to come to you.

its true the players need to step up and play with that dog in them, and the coaches at the same time need to to stop trying to nuder them

There is an obvious disconnect between Gorlden's personality and South Florida athletes.

I'll standby and await those that choose to dispute the numbers.

I'm sure Mitt Romney was appealing to some people. I'm also sure that Barack Obama was appealing to others.

If you can't make it go then you can't make it go.

Listen to an Al Golden pregame speech and you'll have your answer. He's not leadership material.

At franchise some notiable guys from both. Uva had guys like ahmad brooks(49ers), clint sintim(2nd round pick). Chris long(pro bowler with rams) golden had left after his frosh season but same scheme.

At temple junior gallete(saints), some guy adrian robinson(bucs), everybody knows wilkerson.

I'm familiar with all those players. I was asking you to substantiate your factual comment that he regularly had players posting 8-12 sacks per season. Show me the guys who did that under him.
Hush mouth?

Those are pathetic sack numbers. Does anyone have the time/patience to do this exercise (for Miami only) for QB hurries? I'd be curious to see that one.

Total sack numbers are pretty much the same pathetic number across all 3 teams. Temple and UVA managed a few times to have one guy have the lion's share of that paltry sack total whereas UM has spread the "wealth".

Yeah, and the UVA numbers were "bolstered" by 2 guys who were pass rushing machines in college and future pros (Blackstock and Parham).

Before Golden got here we were having some problems on defense but they mostly came from the fact that even then we were not getting the DTs we use to own. Those quick wide bears we always had collapsing the pocket have been missing for some time. Them and the QBs. The problem since Al is all his. His defense is passive period.

If we go back to our old 4-3 aggressive attacking defense we still need to get the right DTs. That was always our edge. You can talk about edge rushers and spread offense but nothing ruins a QB's day like having his center tossed into his lap by a growling 315lb DT trying to rip his head off. Al's defense requires that same DT dance for several moments while the play develops instead of tacking everyone and throw out the ones without the ball.

Our defense is ultra complicated.

Jamal Carter struggled to meet the minimum qualifications for entry into college. I think we can all agree that he isn't the brightest kid in the world. Fentress played ahead of Carter because he is light years more intelligent. It's the reason Golden played Highsmith and Rodgers. Carter has light years more athletic ability than those 3 kids combined but he simply cannot understand nor implement the defense at this point. Maybe he will understand it better next year...who knows.

He will always play the smarter kids over the much more physically talented kids because he has to. The learning curve in this defense is as steep as any.
