Why can’t we win the Acc?

DJ Uiagalelei is far from "mediocre". He stumbled out the gate last year, but is more than capable of bouncing back. Kid was a consensus 5-Start coming out of St. John Bosco a few years back and was a can't-miss kid, who didn't hit the ground running at Clemson. Would hardly be shocked if the kid had a stellar 2022. All the tools are there; the head and heart just weren't there last year.
No doubt he has the physical tools but he had a bad year so mediocre in my opinion is justified. They had a lot of injuries and that played a role but he was mediocre last year and that’s being kind. We shall see how he does.

That's a very simple answer. It comes down to COACHING and our coaches the past 15 years has been horrific and that includes Mark Richt.

if Gattis is worth anything, he should be able to overcome lacking a #1 stud WR, with the 3-headed TE studs and getting creative with Rooster and Parrish as receiving RB's....

The Gattis/Garcis take is interesting, I actually think jake fits this system better than all of our QBs including TVD(no he’s not better). I think jacurri fits it the least but could add a different dynamic because of his athleticism, Jacurri in a briles offense would be insane i hope he plays here before that happens tho lol
Gattis Offense is the Joe Moorehead Offense, which normally features a running QB.

He didn’t have one at Michigan because Harboogie likes old school 80’s/90’s Football.

But both Mario & Gattis like the idea of having a mobile QB to add on with having a heavy rushing attack.

Is TVD mobile enough for Gattis offense. My thoughts are yes but I am no expert

Richt was pretty much shot when he got here and of course a lot of people didnt know about his illness until it became public. I said in another post that Richt made 2017 feel like the glory years of Miami football & I will always be grateful for that.

As far was winning the ACC goes, who knows. I think the coastal is very winnable but Clemson is going nowhere for the forseeable future. Of course having this staff and the way Mario is recruiting 2023 may be the year, if the ACC doesnt go bye bye.

Miami can ABSOLUTELY win the ACC this year. Is it a forgone conclusion? Of course not. Our roster isn’t quite the level where we can expect to just roll over most of the conference. But……..Pitt won the ACC last year. With a less talented team than we have. **** we beat them last year and they still won the conference. Clemson is still the most talented but if their offense continues to struggle, that means they’re going to have more close games than they’re used to. The outcome of a close game can often come down to a lucky bounce or one big break. Which means Clemson can very much lose to multiple less talented teams again.

I wouldn’t bank on winning the conference but I’d say that we definitely have the second best odds to win it after Clemson.
Pitt & Wake Forest gunned their way to the ACCCG

On paper, neither team had the most talent in their divisions last year, but what they had was advanced level QB’s with an Offense that was dedicated to attacking all 4 corners of the field through the Air; simply put, they threw their way through the conference.

Miami has the QB, the question becomes, do we have the WR’s & an Offense conducive to out-gunning our opponents?

Establishing the run game to Mario & Gattis’s liking is a task that may take some time to get up & going at optimum level, especially considering the lack of depth we have on the OL. We don’t really have a road-grading OL that’s designed to imprint a power rushing identity & we don’t have the personnel yet to be a ball control team, therefore there may be some bumps in the road along the way...

It’s varying degrees of mobility; TVD is mobile, but he’s not the kind of mobile that you would called multiple designed runs per game for him.

It’s not really necessary to his skill set, he’s good enough to win from the pocket & can run/escape when necessary, but you wouldn’t implement an entire running package into the system for TVD.

My original comment wasn’t about TVD, I was talking about the future & Jacurri Brown being a better fit in Gattis Offense than Garcia.

if we do this right, Gattis won't be around when it's Jacurri's time.

We had statistically the best passing offense in school history last year. Our two leading receivers went undrafted. The idea that we somehow need Randy Moss for our offense to work is a joke.

I don’t think you can tailor a QB run heavy offense around TVD but he’s very capable of executing the zone read and has proven able to escape and scramble when necessary. If Gattis wants to be Dan Mullen Jr., he needs to realize his quarterback is more Kyle Trask than Tim Tebow.

Him and Mullin are polar opposite’s philosophy wise

I don’t think we are the most talented team in the ACC.

I think Mario had us in the championship game against either Clemson or Notre Dame. Right?

Balance in the force!! Anikan is on his way. Hopefully Mario is the emperor

Notre Dame isn't a member of the ACC for football. They can't play in the championship game.

If Gattis' offense is anything like his mentor, Joe Moorehead's, they're pretty similar. Gattis was passing game coordinator/WR coach under Moorehead for 4 years at Penn State.

If Rambo would’ve came back I would feel much better about this team chances of winning the ACC. The offense will have to carry us a few weeks till the defense fits together with all the new pieces being plugged in. Not winning the coastal would be a failure, especially with PITT and UNC both at home.

Winning the Coastal should happen. We can’t say on one hand that we have a 1st rd talented QB who accomplished gritty and noteworthy performances last year, plus the top rated coaching staff in the conference, and on the other hand that we are weak here, there, and going 8-4 is considered a good season. No way in **** is it a good season.

Fact is, the Coastal is weak. The two other teams to give Miami a game in the division we have at home, Pitt and UNC. Again, no excuses here.

Bottomline, the floor is 9-3. Anything less and MC will be fighting to retain some of these verbal commits..
