This will be the people patting themselves on the back for not caring in the least about all the troubling things we saw yesterday a week from now if they rear their ugly head again and Miami loses at Arkansas St.:
Then all of suddenly it will be okay to be worried about a poor performance. This whole idea that all that matters is W's and L's and nothing else is how you end up with dopes trumpeting Larry Coker's record, "He's 60-10 for chrissakes!" as he drives the program off the cliff. It's how you end up with people saying you can't fire a dent headed coach with Asperger's who hired Pat Nix because he "Bleeds orange and green!" It's how when Miami allows 1100 yards to Wake Forest you have mouthbreathers saying "Scoreboard. The defense is a work in progress. Golden and Dorito will have them tightened up next weekend for sure!" Stop. Making. Excuses.
Would winning yesterday 63-3 guarantee anything going forward? Nope. But you don't get the benefit of the doubt or a pass to take off the first game of the year when you're a team full of players who haven't won ****, haven't done ****, and have largely been ****. Clemson players probably spent the past eight months drunk as ****, smoked the **** out and balls deep in every woman in the state of South Carolina. So if anyone would be expected to not be focused or not care about their first game it would be them. But **** if they didn't show up and fart directly in Kent St's face.
The more excuses you make for occasional mediocrity the more frequent it will become.
