Many here complain about Miami not caring about football. It’s obviously valid as many things done over the last 20 years show that.
Well, looks like Miami is going out and getting Gino as AD. Possibly Zo in some capacity and possibly Mario as HC.
If that doesn’t slap you in the face as Miami now starting to care about football, I don’t know what will.
There are valid points for no prior AD experience, Miami only people, etc.
Let’s give it a chance if this is how it’s going to play out. It’s Miami caring about football. Let’s not miss on that.
Yes. Understood. It is huge. You can’t just gloss over “no AD experience” - that’s huge.
Yes. Understood. It is huge.
But if he interviewed better than those that are current ADs and the put people around him as well that can do many of the roles or know exactly what they need to do, it could work out.
I get it. High Risk/High Reward.
Gino has a business background. He’s done many other things outside of football.
Understood. With you on a lot of it.I can't believe we've just been through 3 years of people constantly whining about Manny being hired after never being a head coach, now suddenly many are OK with an AD who's never even remotely done the job before.
I agree that we do need that element, the seriousness about success, the caring about UM athletics, at an administrative level. I'm just skeptical of well-intentioned ineptness. For all the blind hate directed at Manny, the guy does care, and I have no doubt wanted desperately to succeed here, but a series of missteps that may not have occurred with more seasoning may have doomed his chances at the job he really wanted. I just want to improve the odds of success if we're making real changes now.Understood. With you on a lot of it.
Perhaps for me is just the excitement, as air headed as I might be about it, that they are caring this time about football. In the end, if you get the coach in place to make it all work, it makes the AD job a lot easier in terms of fundraising, projects, etc.
Get the AD help with the other things associated with the job. Surround him with smarter people than him.

Don’t disagree with you. I was a Jurich guy. His accomplishments are unquestionably solid. The problem is.... the people interviewing him have no ******* clue what Miami needs to do to become a winner.
What does Julio Frenk or some Turnkey search firm know about building a national championship football team?
So how would they even know who interviewed well and who didn't?
The smart play was to go hire someone who has done it before. Jurich was the move to make. With Alonzo hired in some capacity to be over football ops.
Hoping that is the case. When ever you have a chance to sign your Pat Haden, you just gotta do it.
Well, we might find out.I do not assume anything until there is an official announcement from the University. But, let's say it is Gino. His current LinkedIn bio has his current role at GAMCO Investors, Inc. as "Institutional asset management. Public Funds, Taft-Hartley and High Net Worth clientele." How does institutional asset management correlate to running an athletic program? Is there some overlap? How are the tasks and objectives similar?

To be fair, brother...idc who the AD is...I'll know everything I need to about whoever it is if Manny Diaz, Jim Larrañaga, and Gino DiMare are here when each's respective seasons are over...if they are, whoever the AD is, needs to walk around with a red nose on until he, too, gets fired.Hoping that is the case.
