Why Are Most Angry with a Gino hire?

I know most on this board only care about football, but baseball and basketball are absolutely down the ****ter too.

Football is the most important but the hire shouldn’t only be about football. We have maybe the most embarrassing P5 basketball program in the country and a baseball program in almost the exact same situation as football.

The fact they’ve basically come out and said the hire is to improve football only is so short-sighted.

Just like good football doesn’t have to be at the expense of the academics, it also doesn’t have to be at the expense of baseball and basketball.

Get a real AD who can lift the department up as a WHOLE.

So because he has a business background he can run an entire college athletics department? And how is it high reward? It’s fuqqin high risk low reward.

Also, you saying that him possibly interviewing well will justify us hiring him…are you actually being serious about these two points?

Plenty of ppl in life can interview well, but have none of the proper credentials for said position. I don’t want Gino because he’s never done it before…point blank. It’s an amateur hour hire, and reeks of UM’s stupidity and Miami bro mentality that has sunk us for the better part of two decades.

Re read what you just wrote and listen to how ridiculous it sounds.
I was trying to explaining why he possibly got hired.

I agree. It doesn’t mean he will do well.

I wanted Jurich. I am just excited about the football part as they have no excuse to not make it better.

How can you say it low reward? What if under his potential tenure, the program wins 4-5 out of the next 10 ACC championships and the program becomes relevant again?

I know, it’s a big fvking “IF.”

Why I posted the thread. To get different opinions.

What in the last 2 decades has made you think the administration deserves the benefit of the doubt, especially with out-of-the-box hires?

Can we maybe just try doing the obvious thing for once?
None!!

Other than Jurich, whom I wanted, who was your choice?

Well, the Nunez guy is a basketball & baseball guy as well, supposedly.

They didn’t hire the guy we wanted but can’t sit here and cry over spilt milk.

So let’s see how it plays out.

AD is a business position, the business of athletics. Gino is a very good business guy. Learning to negotiate the landscape of college athletics with his creds in D1 FB, should be a no brainer. Bring in Zo, and his NFL experience it’s all good. Hiring Mario as HC is the real winner. So they’re Miami guys, yeah Miami guys that have won it all. Climbed to the top of college FB. How is this a ***ing bad thing? I’m a Cane, and I welcome them. Let’s do this ****.#CANESNATIONLIFER🙌🏽
Do you even know what his business experience is? He’s a salesman, personal wealth services. Your people are ******* nuts

Many here complain about Miami not caring about football. It’s obviously valid as many things done over the last 20 years show that.

Well, looks like Miami is going out and getting Gino as AD. Possibly Zo in some capacity and possibly Mario as HC.

If that doesn’t slap you in the face as Miami now starting to care about football, I don’t know what will.

There are valid points for no prior AD experience, Miami only people, etc.

Let’s give it a chance if this is how it’s going to play out. It’s Miami caring about football. Let’s not miss on that.
Gino is exceptionally bright, very successful in the financial world, a Heisman Trophy winner at UM and knows what it takes to succeed at Miami. He would be a very good hire. Partner him with Alonzo and you have a very dynamic team.

Please show me any type of experience Gino has running an athletic department and I’ll change my mind. Didn’t we just say that this is a school not conducive for on the job training?

First time HC and first time AD what could possibly go wrong here?

At least he's not a former popcorn salesman at the Orange Bowl, because we hired that guy as AD too.

Every time someone suggests or mentions a candidate, ask yourself the following:

If ___________ (insert name of candidate here) didn’t play for Miami, would you laugh at that suggestion?

The answer here is Yes. Why, because they’re not qualified and have zero experience running a college athletic department.

Please stop. If Gino won the Heisman and NC at PSU or MSU, you would vomit at how awful this suggestion was/is.

I resent that my people are nuts. I my be nuts but leave my people alone, and my nuts also. Besides WTF is an AD but a salesperson. Selling their programs, their University. JFC, give this guy a chance. Or does the slug Blake sound better. They’re not hiring Jurich. Give it the *** up. Upside,.. not retaining Manny.

If Miami cared about football they would get a proven AD and a proven Coach like USC and LSU!!! Mario is not a PROVEN coach!!

Because he has absolutely no experience as an AD, or even an Associate AD. We hired Coker, Shannon and Diaz with no head coaching experience and how did that work out??? Now, faced with arguably the most important hire for UM athletics and we take 2 weeks to hire a former Cane with no experience.

Go hire an experienced AD and bring in Toretta or Highsmith as an Associate AD so they can learn the job. This isn't ******* rocket science but UM leadership never learns!

Gino and Zo combo at the head of the AD is dumber than talking about trying to pull Kiffin & Dorsey.

The top TWO in an AD having a combined ZERO days of experience in managing collegiate athletics??

BAD BAD BAD

And I’m even one who might be ok with Zo as AD if he is smart enough AND he is paired with an experienced associate AD.
What does that mean?

Because it’s a nepotism hire for a guy that has no experience. It’s A Middling move made by a middling program. If he does in fact get the job, I hope I’m wrong and will gladly eat crow.

LOL these dudes think Lane Kiffen's history of quitting makes him heroic because he is their guy. No ones has any clue on this site what the AD's job is but they have their guy and if its not him then its a F up hire.
