Why Are Most Angry with a Gino hire?

This is what I posted in the other Gino, thread. Basically my biggest grip with all this. Gino/Zo/Mario stuff.

I’m feeling uneasy with all the “Miami” guys, and “friends hiring friends” thing Miami has going on.

So if it is indeed Gino/Zo, and Mario, if In year 3 of Mario things still look the same.. do we really expect these buddies to step up and do what’s needed? I know it would be really difficult for me in that situation.

I really wish we would hire proven, non Miami guys..
They way I feel about that is, if you are not able to fire someone (friend or not) that is not doing their job, then you shouldn't have been given that role. So, I would hope that question comes up in the AD hiring process if we do go that route.

Tired of the Miami only search parties. Operate like a real program, instead of the cronies connection. They don’t have the best interest of the Athletics in mind. They have their best interests in mind.

Good luck expecting Gino/Mario/AH to be fired if they don’t produce. **** look how much it took to fire Blake.

These guys have been in this business long enough to also understand this is a business.

Cross that bridge if we ever get there (hopefully not).

Lastly, not related to what you said but looks like interviews were done. At least it seems to be a vetted out process and the best guy won out of those that interviewed.

At least it appears that way.

We are not in a position to hire a first time AD; it’s really not that hard, go hire a god**** qualified AD. Gino can learn right under him or take care of football if he is inclined.

Yeah but it seems like they are going to surround him with people that have done the job (Nunez, etc).

They aren’t letting him be out on an island on his own.

Who said he is the hire? It was Nunez this morning and then Jericho before that. We’ve also heard Zo is a lock before too. I don’t believe any of this till the school announces it at this point.

I wont say angry. Words like disappointed and concerned are more accurate.

Disappointed in that we could have had Tom Jurich. I've been a huge fan of Tom Jurich for 15+ years. To me he was a can't miss hire. Optics be damned.

Concerned in that Gino could end up being yet another politician type. I fear that he wont be willing to stand up to the UM establishment on certain issues. This hire reeks of "Ed Reed Chief of Staff."

Everyone is *****ing about underqualified guys chosen for their “Miami guy” ties and you’re asking why people aren’t jumping for joy? Some of us want to be run like a real program not one stuck in the past bringing up our 2001 team every year we scrape together enough wins to play in a bowl game nobody has ever heard of

Many here complain about Miami not caring about football. It’s obviously valid as many things done over the last 20 years show that.

Well, looks like Miami is going out and getting Gino as AD. Possibly Zo in some capacity and possibly Mario as HC.

If that doesn’t slap you in the face as Miami now starting to care about football, I don’t know what will.

There are valid points for no prior AD experience, Miami only people, etc.

Let’s give it a chance if this is how it’s going to play out. It’s Miami caring about football. Let’s not miss on that.
As someone who has bashed this administration repeatedly and without a shred of mercy for their rank incompetence and political corruption I was completely expecting an Epstein puppet to be installed as AD.

If this is true and Gino Toretta is indeed the new AD then I am absolutely OK with it. For starters Gino Toretta is a very intelligent and shrewd businessman who doesn't posses a shred of incompetence. He has worked and been very successful in global asset management and while his resume doesn't include ever being an AD, I fully expect him to do a phenomenal job. Secondly Toretta is no puppet of anyone's and he will demand the very best from our football program and all athletics in general. No this a not a Lynn Swann situation. Yes he is connected to Miami but I don't think that is a negative in this case. I think this is a very good hire if true.

Ed Reed was done by Blake and Manny to keep Zo from having power over football. It was to save themselves. If you know anything about Gino or Zo is they won't accept anything other than winning

I HATE the Gino and Zo hire ! They have zero experience as athletic directors!! Yea they know football but now the women soccer team will suffer!!

- said by absolutely no one!! Football is all that make the U the brand it is !

While I fully understand your concerns I don't believe this is a Ed Reed Chief of Staff situation. Gino is competent and shrewd and will demand excellence from the football program.

Would I have rather had Jurich? Yes absolutely but this is a solid hire IMO.

I personally didn't want anyone associated with the university to get this role. I wanted them to come in with new ways of thinking and ideas to imprint on this school's athletic department and not people clamoring about how they won in the old days. What worked back then doesn't work now and never will.

Pretty much what he said.
