Who's the AD at Baylor?

They have some billionaire that is invested in seeing the program succeed. I believe I read that he helped pay for their new stadium.

Funny how other small private schools find a way to get things done.

Baylor is unique because they have Texas oil money, plus they also were already playing on campus, so finding land and whatnot wasn't an issue for the new facility. Never mind the fact that it's inherently cheaper to build anything in Waco compared to Coral Gables.

Baylor does have a larger student body, and larger alumni base. Never mind the fact that like Notre Dame, they get a ton of support from the church(in this case Baptists), all over the state. Baylor is very similar to USC in the fact that their student body is mostly local, giving a state school feel. It's rare and I mean rare for kids from outside of Texas to want to attend Baylor.

By the way, Baylor is ranked in the 70s in the USNWR and that's despite Baylor being in the middle of a HUGE fundraising drive which pushes up the rankings significantly. They are having a moment right now, but I wouldn't be shocked if eventually, they recede back, because they aren't getting invited to another conference, and the Big XII is a glorified midmajor once Texas and OU leaves.

Baylor raised 1.1 BILLION dollars since they announced their "Give Light" campaign. More than half privately (alumni) before announcing to the public it was even a thing. It's sprucing up the campus, new basketball arena, other sporting upgrades, etc.

We had to pull teeth (and did backflips) on getting 30 mil for an IPF. We ain't the same.

Mack Rhoades (Baylor), Rick Hart (SMU), and Doug Gillin (App State) would all be really interesting options. I don't have much to go off of outside of them running really strong programs. I feel like Mack would be tough to pull from Baylor boosters but the others should definitely be doable.

Gillin may be at the top considering he led App State from FCS and FBS and hasn't skipped a beat.

Very good list. I would add Hunter Yurachek from Arkansas; he has hired Sumlin, Herman, and Pittman, plus Kelvin Sampson and Eric Musselman in Basketball.

Needless to say, he is a pipe dream. Christian man at a baptist college. He ain't leaving for Miami.

Miami, with strong personnel can fundraise better. Frenk isn't Shalala in that area, and James isn't nearly as strong a fundraiser as the University states. That said, there are limits to how much more can be raised. We need better leadership, point blank period. We aren't maxing out what we can do. That's the frustrating part.

Sometimes you need a stop-gap. He's 70. They could have moved him out after next season into another role.. but instead, they extended him through 2025. That was the real mistake IMO. Just not needed. (He wasn't leaving)

If you are focusing on the stadium, I think the bigger and maybe only question is what is their campus like vs. ours. The rest is kind of irrelevant. We are pretty much landlocked in a city that has no interest in permitting this. Waco seems much more amenable to pushing this through than Coral Gables, where our basketball stadium still doesn't have all seats installed because of traffic concerns.

There is ZERO excuse for Miami not to have its own stadium. People really need to stop being apologists for our BOT's lazy and cheap ways.

The fact that any major college football team exists that doesn't have its own stadium in this day and age is laughably pathetic. We had a perfectly fine stadium - the Orange Bowl - until Manny Diaz Sr personally tore it down, while Donna Shalala looked on laughing.

Now we play our games in the great Teal Rent-a-Field in Miami Gardens and people still want to defend it. There is no defending. There is no doubt other teams use the fact that we have no stadium to recruit against us and frankly, it's the biggest proof there is that this admin doesn't give a crap about football.

If Miami wanted to build a stadium, they could. They don't want to spend the money.

I’d love it and agree it is a talking point. I’m just saying at present we need to get a few other things tidied up and for sure need different leadership for it to ever be a possibility. But any AD should set their goals and sights high and nothing would be better as a statement of intent and vision than that.

Nothing in this post is true. Except for the fact that we play in Hard Rock.

There was a county-wide referendum (that passed) and a signed contract with Hammes to renovate the Orange Bowl. The City of Miami, under pressure from the Latin Builders Association, paid a million dollars to renege on the signed contract.

Those are the facts. Shalala was not "laughing".

And, sadly, there is no Dade municipality that wants to put its bond-writing ability in the hands of UM in order to build a stadium.

At any rate, I've given the perfect solution about a million times. Shopping center at the corner of NW 7th Street and Douglas Road.
