Baylor is unique because they have Texas oil money, plus they also were already playing on campus, so finding land and whatnot wasn't an issue for the new facility. Never mind the fact that it's inherently cheaper to build anything in Waco compared to Coral Gables. They have some billionaire that is invested in seeing the program succeed. I believe I read that he helped pay for their new stadium.
Funny how other small private schools find a way to get things done.
Baylor does have a larger student body, and larger alumni base. Never mind the fact that like Notre Dame, they get a ton of support from the church(in this case Baptists), all over the state. Baylor is very similar to USC in the fact that their student body is mostly local, giving a state school feel. It's rare and I mean rare for kids from outside of Texas to want to attend Baylor.
By the way, Baylor is ranked in the 70s in the USNWR and that's despite Baylor being in the middle of a HUGE fundraising drive which pushes up the rankings significantly. They are having a moment right now, but I wouldn't be shocked if eventually, they recede back, because they aren't getting invited to another conference, and the Big XII is a glorified midmajor once Texas and OU leaves.
