Who on this board wanted Mendoza to transfer to the U?

I would have been fine with it but thought we could do better. Who's to say if he would have had as much success in Dawson's offense but it would have been fun to see. I said Beck would prove to be the better choice in the long run and that might still be the case.

I won't lie and say I expected him to be a Heisman and first round pick. Not even close. But I've been saying he was underrated since he was headed to Yale. This is from November 2021:

Fernando Mendoza, 6’5, 215 (Columbus)- Big-bodied, pro-style passer. Not twitchy but showed improved ability to throw off-platform as a senior. Solid arm strength. Numbers are average in run-based offense. Surprised he didn’t get more FBS attention given his dimensions. Yale commit.

I always wanted him. Give me an accurate passing QB to fit our power running game. He's obviously been better than I thought he'd be.

CJ Bailey is my #1 this year because he's the most accurate and polished passing QB I've seen likely available.

A whole lot of lies being told on this thread.

🤚🏻 I never wanted him. Saw him live in Berkeley. Thought he was a game manager. Not awful, but far from elite. He lucked out getting to Indiana. All the stars aligned for him and he had a great season. Some dumb NFL team is going to spend a high round pick on him and they will join the list of dummies who drafted a bust QB.

Feel free to throw this post in my face in 3-4 years if I’m wrong. I won’t be.

It's not a big deal. It's a reasonable take.

Even if we did get Mendoza, he would still be at the mercy of Mario and company during the middle of the season, who’s to say he would’ve come in did what he did at Indiana, despite us reverting back to pound, pound, pound foosball. Good for him though, I didn’t care to take him, if he would’ve came then great. He would’ve gotten the praise and defamation that Beck has gotten in my opinion. College football seems to be a game of “what ifs”anyway. Let’s say Penn State didn’t go into a shell and try to run time of the clock, instead of not trying to get a 1st down and win the game, instead they have to punt and give Mendoza a chance, and “what if” his 2 receivers don’t catch those 2 passes. A game of “what ifs”
