Seriously (very hard for me to be), our 1980's offense was a legacy of the offensive system used by Graham and Paul Brown with the '50's Browns.

It was passed down from Brown to Shula, maybe with Weeb Ewbank in between. Shula passed it on to Schnellenberger. It was retained by JJ and Gary Stevens until Dennis Erickson brought in his one back.
