I was just curious if there are any names floating out there as candidates to succeed DS. I would imagine that there a few of you who are fairly plugged in to this sort of thing.

What type of experience and background are preferred for a position of this kind? Could anyone speculate on what the short list might look like? Thanks.

Either a dean of one of the bigger colleges, or the provost, Thomas LeBlanc. Doubt someone from outside of UM would come in to be the new President

Isn't this a possible rumor?

Not sure why you think that. Universities often look for new blood instead of promoting from within. I can guarantee there will be a national search and a lot of good applicants to weed through. Shalala improved the academic reputation of UM such that this would be a dream job for a lot of folks.

Rice is dream come true, but I doubt it happens.

With the way the University is expanding it's academics, trying to really push the engineering school, I wonder if they won't look to the bigger Engineering schools for a President - Purdue for example.
