Who’s the most underutilized player in Miami football history?

Dude could've played both. OSU had a 2-way starter but Miami can't figure out how to hand the football to a guy that was a RB earlier in the year.
No doubt about it. As soon as Willis went down Geathers should’ve been back in the backfield just like he had been all season. I don’t know who they would’ve had to trot out there at WR, but it doesn’t matter.

Had a conversation with a friend of mine about this the other day.

I’ll give mine - Devin Hester

Had he been utilized as a RB/WR also as a Return specialist here he could’ve been a Heisman candidate and all time NCAA all purpose yardage guy here. Coker and his staff s*** the bed with him. Dudes still gonna end up in the NFL hall of fame despite switching positions multiple times in college and the pros.
First name I thought of. Kept saying he didn’t know the playbook

All reports before the game were that Gore had fully recovered and Gore was absolutely destroying our 1st Team defense in the Fiesta Bowl practices.

He would've been our starting TB in 2000 if not for knee injury in the 99 KO Classic
I don‘t know if it was bad luck or he was made of glass, but Najeh was always getting hurt in the NFL too. He started ballin’ for the Packers, and a few games later….hurt. Steelers for a bit….hurt.

He was as gifted, in his own way, as anyone in that period with Edge-Jackson-Portis-MacGhee-Gore.

Sean Taylor and DJ Williams. In a year we struggled on offense, get the ball in the hands of the best two football players on the team occasionally. Also, playing Romeo Davis over Leon Williams was a crime. Williams went on to play in the NFL for at least a few years.

I don’t mean this to be a knock on your comment, but more of a general question for the board.

I watch a lot of cfb. I don’t see jet sweeps as a staple of any successful offenses. I especially wouldn’t run them with berrios, who might have the quickness but not the long speed. But I’d very rarely run them regardless.

What is the obsession with the jet sweep? It’s a slow developing play that goes horizontal more than vertical. It’s a death wish vs any defense with speed.

I just never understood the jet sweep fanatics.

Gus went to Rutgers, not Cuse; but in fairness, he had no shot here.

His first two yrs, he was behind Duke. His Jr yr, where he could’ve established himself, he had a foot injury that caused him to miss the entire yr, which led to the emergence of Yearby (1,000 yrd season in 2015). His Sr, now he’s behind both Walton & Yearby b/c of they were 1 & 2 in 2015.

So it was best for him to transfer while he still had time.

Which part are you saying did not happen?
The coaching staff did not play Romeo Davis over Leon Williams.

They overlapped in 2004. Davis started 2 games at weakside LB. Williams was an MLB. Williams started 5 games and was injured part of the season. They both started vs Va. Tech at the end of the season.

But the point is that Gus signed his 2nd contract in the NFL while Yearby & Walton couldn’t make the league. Seems to me like Gus was underutilized here. I’ll trust the Ravens over the hacks we had calling plays.

Gus fits w/ what Baltimore does, & he’s a good complimentary back. They pound the rock all game (pause), & b/c the focus is LJ & not anyone else on the team, it alleviates pressure off the back field. LJ has led Baltimore in rushing every season since 2019. Ingram benefited from LJ, Dobbins benefitted from LJ, Gus has benefited from LJ.

So yes, Gus is on his 2nd contract, which is great for him, but he also went to the best situation possible as a UDFA, playing w/ a MVP QB where teams scheme upon, and playing for a coach who uses a RB by committee system. All I’m saying is while here, he wasn’t going to start over Duke, and when it was his turn to become the man, he was injured for the whole year, which allowed two other guys to establish themselves as RB1 & RB2. So I wouldn’t necessarily classify him as underutilized vs. bad luck, timing while he was here.

Gus was going to get the ball 15-20X a game and he got hurt. Unlucky. He played meaningful minutes his first two years on campus and ran for 5.7 YPC his 2nd year. If he doesn't get hurt, he goes to the NFL after year 3 at UM.

Willie, Al, James Stewart.

Physically, those dudes were some of the most physically gifted guys we've ever had and they had disappointing careers.

You can maybe even add Tony Gaiter to that list.

WRs AC Tellison and Chris T. Jones. I still remember Jones making and all-time great one-hand sideline catch vs FSU in 1994.

Talented but suffered behind the QB tandem of Costa and Collins.

Jammi biggest issue was himself. We've had our share of AMAZINGLY talented dudes who didn't get enough opportunities. Jammi wasn't that. He was gave opportunity after opportunity and he'd somehow ***** it up. For me my vote would either go to Devin or Willie for most under utilized. But it's so tough to say with this.

Maxwell Voce agrees with this post...
