Who’s the greatest assistant coach in canes history?

Lubbick is probably the best answer, but man I loved Soldinger. Our RBs could all run, catch, and block, and our STs were incredible under him.
 
I haven't read all 6 pages, but you can't have this list without Harold Allen, who was the UM DL coach from the
1960s the 1983 season.
The work he did developing DLmen, especially during the dark ages of the 1970s, was amazing.
Names like Ted Hendricks, Tony Cline, Gary Dunn, Eddie Edwards, Rubin Carter, Don Latimer, Lester Williams,
Tony Fitzpatrick, Glenn Cook, Willie Lee Broughton, Bob Nelson, Jim Burt, and others who logged time
in the NFL and often at All-Pro level.

You’d better forgive him. The call was for a running play but Vinny changed it at the LOS as he did a couple of times earlier in the game...to disastrous results in the game.

In 1979 Freddie was the #1 Ranked HS RB in America, over Bo Jackson....Hershell Walker and Marcus Dupree...Think about that....
If Freddie had the opportunity to run against the opponents that they ran against, it would have been criminal....

Nice Try??....Only a Misinformed idiot would even attempt to argue that...Without question, UMs Best DC ever..and to be honest..its not even close....91 Defense is statistically UMs Best ever....During his tenure...he had more AA DL-men and AA LBers than any other DC in UM History....Stop the "He's not UMs best DC ever" narrative.....Yes he is...

Yeah, I'm pretty sure Gary Stevens didn't tell Vinny to, "Throw the ball into the area where you see the biggest collection of dark blue jerseys."

Agreed.

You never know what would have happened, and those three other guys were crazy talented. BUT …. when it comes to Florida HS RB's, I will hold that Freddie was the GOAT and will carry that to my grave!

Nope.

Will NOT. I was talking to Art Kehoe years later, and he told me that the 3rd down call was not changed by Vinny at the LOS … but you're right, a few were during that game, and Vinny was wrong to do so because the defense was in his head a bit and he was confused.

Gary should have taken control of the situation, which he never did. The whole game on offense, despite us outgaining them 450 yards to 150 was a clusterfu*k of embarrassing proportions. The 3rd and goal was just a part of it, but it sticks in my head because there was the chance to put it all away.

It looks like the off tackle FB lead play but you give it to the FB and the TB goes belly to the TE's outside hip.

THAT was the call they should have gone with, as Alonzo in the 4th quarter was on fire and carrying the entire game on his back, and had like 40 yards on three carries on that exact play. Gary calls that on third and goal, and Alonzo walks into the end zone. Fack Gary Stevens and that smelly chainsmoking truck driver. He cost us a Natty. End of story.
