Whitlock on ACC officiating

the ref threw the flag before he could know which team recovered

Exactly. There is no grand conspiracy here, just an poor level of officiating competence across the ranks of the ACC, with a little home town bias thrown in from time to time.

I agree ACC officiating is more incompetent than anything else. If the ACC wanted Miami to lose the Duke game they simply would have ruled Walton down and the game over.

In the UNC-Clemson case the ref who threw the flag for offsides had either a bad angle or lapse of concentration. Poor job by him either way.

The conspiracy buff in me would say he threw the flag in case UNC recovered. If Clemson recovered they could have just declined the penalty, no?

This. I thought that last drive might have been the worst officiated game I have ever seen with but one infamous exception. And for those who poke fun at the idea of a conspiracy, it's not even about a conspiracy. It could simply be certain ref. crews favor certain programs, Duke being one of them. Same is true in basketball.

After the Duke game there was a clear and unquestionable bias against us. It sure seemed like they were going to make sure we paid for the errors made by the officials during that game.

Let's not forget the 3 PI calls on Dukes last drive, the no review on their go ahead TD and all the other Bull****.

Then during the UNC game there were 2 blatant tounting penalties against UNC when they did the upside down U after touchdowns yet no calls. It would've made no difference in the outcome of the game I just find it funny that S. Coley can get a penalty a game for being a little too exuberant after a catch and then other teams get away with that non-sense.

didnt know that clemson could decline it, thought it was a redo either way

I'm fairly sure Clemson could decline. This is no different than a 'free play' by an offense when the defense jumps early. I think this would apply to special teams as well.

Offsides on the defense is not the same as false start on the offense. And technically I believe the kicking team is on defense.

Didn't see the game but if what you say is correct I would say it's a moot point. I live in NC and most sports radio shows have beat it to death. Per your post.

Should definetly be some sort of study going on and w/o a doubt upgrading and standardizing of number and placement of replay cameras.

I'll grant you that Im sort of a part time tin foil hat wearer but...

For decades now Ive been of the opinion that much of college football officiating is fixed. As a former gambler I saw stuff that blew me away during critical games where there was heavy action. As well, how is it that the NCAA rules with an iron fist over all aspects of college athletics yet leaves game officiating up to the individual conferences??? That makes zero sense.... Unless you know that stuff is going on that you don't want to be connected to.

When was the last time that the NCAA ever investigated an officiating crew or crews for fraudulent behavior? Top my knowledge they never have.

With regard to the ACC, does anyone doubt the control of the tobacco road mafia? Duke and UNC basketball are all the proof anyone might need. For decades they would brag that "Duke makes more free throws than the other team attempts." Well duh!!! They get every single call in every single game.
Good points all.

The ACC benefits from Miami being down how?

If UM football were at the level its was at during the mid to late 80's or the late 90's, it would have literally DESTROYED ACC football. Look at what happened to the PAC10 when Pete Carroll took over USC. Same thing. EVERY KID in the state of California (the recruiting market that feeds the entire Pac 10) wanted to go to USC. The entire conference went to ****. Its not a accident that the NCAA went full ****** on USC with sanctions. The same thing would have happened to the ACC had it not been for the midget marxist.

I've often opined that part of donna's motivation in doing the damage she did to UM football was part of her deal to get UM into the ACC. By again, Im a tin foil hat kinda guy. lol
What brand & size do you use? funny post.

I'm all in that ACC Sucks from officiating to commish
U lose all cred with claiming a fix on the ko call though/ the flag flew way b4 the recovery / rt at the kick
These refs just suck ....,

Really? Why? You think the ref is going to wait ten seconds (or a lot longer if they have to unpile a scrum of players) to see who comes up with the ball, ... and then suddenly toss his flag onto the field?? That wouldn't look ridiculously suspicious or anything. They are corrupt, not stupid.

If you go the conspiracy route then the ref knew he was throwing the flag regardless In case of a recovery

For one this season early in some important games we have had pivotal holding flags. Normally I would say its a bad O line and young lineman but when you see play after play of the other team in replay and none of those holds are called it gets pretty obvious. One place you can tell bias is the replay ref and until this years Duke game I had never seen a call like that fumble go our way.

Only time will tell but having a bad president in shalala, poor officiating, then use returning to our rightful thrown in college football would make a incredible The U part 3. We shall see in the coming years. Go canes.

Funny enough, I had a long conversation today with a Pitt fan about this. He asked me if the refs were on the UM flight heading back to Miami after the game. Lol. Cry me a river....

anyway - it led to a lengthy conversation about ACC officiating. My premise is that it will always be a Mickey mouse league until they upgrade their officiating. This includes (!) giving the officials what they need to perform at a higher level but also demanding a higher level of competency. It's sad that we've come to expect either bias or incompetence. Because it's one or the other when you look at the UNC offsides call, almost the entire UM v Duke game, the lack of calls against UNC in our game, + I've actually seen entire ACC games with no holding calls (not one of ours of course). It's highly improbable that an entire game goes without a single hold, that a Miami player wouldn't have been flagged for a hand gesture, or that a championship game should be decided on a BAD call.

I've no tin foil hat on this - but I could be easily convinced that fixes are in. I prefer to chalk this ineptitude up to bias and shoddy officiating.

the ref threw the flag before he could know which team recovered

How does that matter?

He threw it against UNC not against anyone else so it could have only hurt UNC.

If Clemson recovered it they could have declined it.

If you guys don't think that there are some officials on the fix every single Saturday your foolish.

There is simply to much money at stake and with Holding calls its too easy to bend the outcome of a game to the monies advantage.

Some NBA ref got caught a few years back and those guys make careers out of it. College refs are regular guys who live to be in the lime light, on the fields, in the big games around the coaches and players. They are corrupted by money like everyone else and cons can get their balls in a vice as easy if not easier than professional refs.

This day and age with social media, regular media, cameras on every phone and the way no one can keep secrets anymore I think it is almost impossible for a ref to be on the take. Someone will find out and follow the money trail.
People always want to think that there's some sort of swiss bank account or one in the Caribbean.
You are living in a dreamland called Hollywood if you believe this.

Come on. You think people on the take do it over social media? I have no idea how that even comes into play.

That's like saying in this day and age politicians cant be on the take.

Or

In this day an age college recruits dont get paid.

Where there is a lot of money involved there is always corruption. Its the root of all corruption.

I am saying a colleague who is not on the take or family member or authoritarian staff member would find out. These are Refs. They are not international super spies who know how to keep secrets.
Someone will find out eventually and they won't be able to keep their mouths shut.

Then by that logic social media has ended all corruption in the world other than international super spies of course. Kind of cool... never thought of it that way.
