There have been a few. In no particular order:
1989 vs Notre Dame
Canes rout undefeated, top-ranked, and defending NC Notre Dame in a revenge game. Last game of season. Canes on their way to a 3rd NC. My 25th birthday. Strippers. Good times. Really good times.
1994 vs FSU
The Canes were reeling after the end of the 58-game home winning streak and a lackluster win at Rutgers. Canes return home to beat FSU handily with one of the best defensive teams ever: Warren Sapp, Ray Lewis, Kernard Lang, Kenny Holmes, Pat Riley, Rohan Marley. Defense made big plays all night with three key interceptions. Watching on TV, I could feel the intensity of the nighttime crowd. I thought the stadium might collapse after Carlos Jones iced the game with a pick 6.
2001 Rose Bowl vs Nebraska.
Attended the game. Even up 34-0 at halftime I grew nervous as NU scored 14 as Coker called off the dawgs. I had nothing to worry about, of course. Great feeling as the 80% NU crowd was silent most of the game.
2003 Berlin-led comeback vs Florida
A Gator friend of mine kept leaving me voice messages as UF jumped out to huge lead. I saw this friend the next morning to watch NFL games. He immediately ducked his head in shame. Good times.
2000 Wide Right III vs FSU
The Canes were back after beating defending NC and hated-rival FSU. Rough game emotionally, as the Canes blew a 17-0 lead and needed ‘the drive’ to score the go-ahead TD with a minute (?) to go, and then needed a missed FG to preserve the victory.
1998 vs UCLA
The Canes were almost back after upsetting undefeated and #2 UCLA, one week after being throttled 66-13 at Syracuse.
1990 Cotton Bowl vs Texas
Despite public opinion, the Canes gave a big middle finger to CFB. Overwhelmed Texas 46-3. Made the CBS announcers cry.
Other posts remind me of other great games....too many to rehash.
