Where do Mullen, Taggart rank among college football’s offensive masterminds?

This season will have some good storylines to watch on the offensive side of the ball.

I'm interested to see how Josh Heupel does at UCF, they 100% aren't going to go undefeated again, but he's an up & coming young guy that did well as OC with Mizzou last year. He was a big part in Drew Lock being developed into a potential 1st round draft pick.

Also going to be paying attention to Mike Norvell at Memphis & Chad Morris at Arkansas.

For Miami, we have the most loaded offense we've had in over 15 years, so there's that.

But 2019 will be really interesting to see, we'll have inexperienced young QB's with potential surrounded by All-ACC high level talent in the backfield, WR Corp & TE group.

Because it’s only July and 3 of his top prospects are probably not going to stick. Plus his only real big names he’s probably going to add is Nick Cross and Will Putnam.

They aren’t in UiF’s territory where it’s obvious but there’s definitely a dropoff.

I can't judge his 2019 class in July, but he had very few commits last December and had a huge NSD in Feb.

Say what you want about Urkel but his Offense will give us fits. I expect his Defense to be ****** eventually like all his Defense’s.

we have the talent, I want to see an explosive and efficient offense this year, no excuses.

Anyone arguing we don’t need more 4-5 star players in today’s game is arguing a foolish point, homie or not.

I’m OK w us doing early assessments on 3 Stars that can or will blossom to 4 star guys (e.g Silvera) but blue chips in our back yard should be staying home. These mofos are helping the enemy. (See Patrick Peterson, Amari Cooper, Jerry Jeudy, Calvin Ridley, Dalvin Cook, DaVante Freeman, Travis Rudolph, Ryan Shazier, Sony Michel, Sammy Watkins, Brian Burns etc. etc. etc.)

We lost TC and Surtain last yr. We cannot, CANNOT continue to bleed blue chip prospects from our back yard. No more excuses.

until he got to maimi and had to deal with golden's leftovers, i think every QB Richt coached at FSU and UGA was all conference.

Another topic that has posters with differing opinions and no one can prove who is correct. Judge Mullins and Taggart after a few years at uf
And fsu Both coached at mediocre programs. Now they are at colleges that have in recent history won national championships. These colleges are located in areas that have a wealth of high school talent. Before Richt became our coach, fsu and uf ate our lunch recruiting the states best hs players. We must be careful to protect our recent gains because these new coaches will have the resources to fight us for fla recruiting supremacy.

Richt, the QB whisperer?

Fisher and Richt are both known for developing quarterbacks, so it's interesting that Richt's teams have a slightly higher passer rating (147.4) than what Fisher produced with the Seminoles (146.7).

Miami Hurricanes head coach Mark Richt is seen on the sidelines during the second quarter against the Clemson Tigers in their ACC Championship game Saturday, Dec. 02, 2017 in Charlotte, NC. (MONICA HERNDON | Times)

Mark Richt
Points per game: 33.2 (36th)
Passer rating: 147.40 (18th)
Yards per rush: 4.77 (35th)

Jimbo Fisher
Points per game: 34.59 (25th)
Passer rating: 146.71 (21st)
Yards per rush: 4.76 (36th)

Jimbo Fisher
With Jameis Winston (2013-14)
Average S&P+ rank: 10
Yards per play: 7.03
Passer rating: 158.33
Points per game: 42.7
Without Jameis Winston
Average S&P+ rank: 34.3
Yards per play: 6.26
Passer rating: 143.39
Points per game: 32.3

I don't remember Tagert's USF teams playing against any top defensive opposition. All I can say is his offenses generally performed well against whoever they played. Flowers was an above average qb, so that helped. At FSU he will face better defenses but have much more firepower on offense. We will just have to see how it plays out.

You're absolutely right. We need to do it on the field this year, and the recruits will come. Another 1 loss(max) regular season, ACCCG appearance, hopefully making it a real game this time, and a playoff or NY6 bowl appearance (this time a W) is the minimum. 12-2 or better, or bust.

What has Taggart done without Quinton Flowers?

^^^^^^^ this.

That question is pretty much everything when it comes to Taggart, because the answer is simple - nothing.

Everyone is going nuts in Tally because the dude knows how to package things and sell them...if I hear another FSU fan say, "ZOMG Taggart's Gulf Coast Offense is all about SPEEEEDDD," I don't even know.

Everyone conveniently ignores the fact that this guy is a sub .500 coach, has completely bombed against marginal P5 teams, and without an absolute stud at QB who can "do it all," his resume completely falls apart.

The other thing that absolutely makes me LOL about Taggart and his premature fanclub are the other points people tend to ignore - the dude absolutely COULD NOT land an elite coaching staff. He made offers to a lot of really great coaches, many of whom had worked with him before, and no one wanted to go with him to FSU. I may be looking too deeply into it, but to me, that's very telling. People that spent time with this guy said, "thanks, but no thanks." He couldn't even land Dugans, a freaking FSU alum who he had worked with before. Jim Leavitt? Nope. Mario Cristobal? Nope. FSU is objectively a great job, and he couldn't even bring along alums, former co-workers, nothing. His entire staff is a bunch of nobodies currently being propped up by an overly optimistic media and fan base, and more importantly, almost all of them were second and third choices.

Taggart to me is another Al Golden - great talker, solid recruiter, and he has a couple "meh" turnaround stories under his belt, but if you dig in, there's not much there. He'll run a fast paced offense and smack around a few teams here and there because no matter who you are, breakneck offenses will just straight up wear out certain teams. But his staff sucks, he's not impressive, and if Randy Shannon taught the world anything, it's that even a #1 class and 5-Star talent might as well be a pile of nothing with a crappy coaching staff.

So long as FSU’s OL is trash, that offense isn’t doing ****.

Guy can recruit though which is why I really hope VT beats them opening day. And don’t give me any of that crap that we need VT to lose cause of the coastal. Our head to head matchup with them determines that.

Back to FSU though, a L on opening night kills momentum and sets them up for a nice 8-4/7-5 type season. Taggart would have nothing to sell except bags.

I've actually heard FSU "experts" who've said that they don't really need a good O line because they'll run their offense with enough tempo that the ability of the O line won't matter as much. And that wasn't just from some crazy FSU friend of mine, that was from one of the Warchant guys.

The way FSU delusion with Taggart has exploded .. well I guess I shouldn't say it's unbelievable b/c it's FSU. There's no more glass half full fanbase anywhere in the country. It's completely unwarranted though. Can't wait for the house of cards to come crashing down.

I hope they stay deluded and keep Taggart around for the next decade.

Taggart too high at 77
Mullen too low at 46

Mullet's ranking is accurate. He benefitted (in the past) from having Tebow, now he will suffer enormously from having poor skill position players and/or criminals.

Don’t agree at all. He was competitive at Mississippi State and developed two pretty solid QBs there too.

He’s an average 9 win coach at UF in the SEC Least.

That’s good enough for top 30
