Where are the patterns?

I feel like there is some inevitability to being beat when left on an island as often as OJ is against the other team’s best WR.
And remember OJ is still just a sophomore.

Not saying I am happy about it, but sooner or later this will happen.
Esp when the QB breaks contain.

Will the interior of the DL hold up over the course of the season? We need Lyle back and healthy for the rest of the season. Our OL is great but the few times Beck has been rushed he has let the ball sail on him. We should be 3-0 and 2-1 right now either way so no reason to beat our chests about anything yet.

ND was a great win but they are now 0-2 and we barely won. We dominated them along the trenches which was their strength so that stands out but we only beat them by 3 with a kid making his first start. If CJ doesnt make that highlight catch, that ball is picked and going the other way with tons of daylight in front for that DB. Point is that we don’t really know how good they are right now and in turn how good we are.

We are 3-0 and some things feel different but we said that in 23 and 24 as well. The difference really is we beat last years runner ups in ND in the trenches but we now don’t know how good they are. I will say, optimism is a strange feeling for a Canes fan after the past two decades. It’s starting to creep in, as OP stated, my post in other years would be way more definitive.

The concern I have is eye discipline from the secondary on scramble drills. After rewatching the games, looks like most of the explosive players have come when the opposing QB is scrambling and the Miami DBs get caught looking in the backfield and lose sight of the receiver in the process. That needs to be cleaned up.

Concerns:
Speed at WR, are we fast enough to beat teams downfield in the CFP or do we just win the 1v1 with Moore/Daniels. W/o, teams will load the box.

DE depth- we have 3 guys ready to play every snap. Lightfoot, Bryant, Pickett are edge only. We need 44 healthy, 35 to keep developing, and most importantly the top 3 to remain healthy. Another key is going to be Blounts continued improvement allowing more of a rotation for 3/4.

USF may have shown us that Mario is finally willing to beat the breaks off of good teams. No more going into a shell. Let the ones get the score comfortable then play lots of twos to get reps higher for twos and lower for ones.

Lastly, I have seen nothing to show a change in how refs call our games. DMoney said it: how does the top OL get called for 4-5 penalties yet USF called for none against our top 10 DL? trader being dragged by the facemask for 10 yards with no flag. Toney almost tackled with the ball near him. Bain horsecollared by RT. Etc etc etc I don’t give two ***** about being perfect just be fair/balanced.
Moore had the db beat, but ball was slightly under thrown. He made a tough catch. We all know Marion is fast and he’s been very reliable so far.

I still don't think the talent at LB is quite there. Better but I think we will see some issues against a good run scheme with good backs. Louisville comes to mind.

Let’s see this against top DBs. Tough to judge them against ND with all the holding. USF is a nice team but they don’t have elite talent like we will see in the cfp.

Fair points.
