When you guys watched Mendoza, did you really think "Oh, yeah, this guy should be the #1 overall pick in the draft!!!!"

My projection for him is a Kirk Cousins type. Whether or not that is worthy of the top pick, not for me to decide but I think he will do very well in the NFL.

Kid takes shots and keeps getting up and up and up. Smart ball player.

I still can’t believe Heatherman didn’t account for a common play they run out of that set on 3rd and 4th down. Brutal!
This isn't a bad comp either. Bit of a goof like Kirko, as well.

He’s a good QB that went to a really good team. That was well prepared. Had a bunch of good receivers and all that helped. He doesn’t win the Heisman nor even smells the playoffs if he stays at Cal that’s for sure.

Weakest QB draft class in ages. He's talented, but we won't know what he is bc ultimately it's about real time processing against adjusting defenses. And no, being a Yale guy doesn't mean anything here (see Fitzpatrick).

Two of the three teams I saw him play against, (UM and OSU) he looked mid af. Throws a nice sideline backshoulder, and little else.

He's kind of a Ken Dorsey...tough, good leader, executes the offense. Not someone who puts the team on his back with skill.

O'Connor had a pick 6 slip through his hands. All that Mendoza hype but that pass would have ended it. Crazy how this game could have turned like the Ohio St game if one guy makes a play. obviously a harder INT - Scott read the play all the way and caught it in stride against OSU, O'Connor turned and saw the ball as it was headed towards him. You can let that go in a regular season game but in a national championship game, it has to be made.

Weaker arm than both of those guys IMO. Also not a better athlete than Goff. I would be disappointed for sure if my team had the #1 pick this year.
Both guys knocked for their arm strength pre-draft.

Jared Goff was and is a below average NFL athlete at QB

So was Matt Ryan.

Ferny ran for more yards this year than both of them combined throughout their college careers.

We can split hairs over their 1:1 comp and Goff and Ryans careers can skew your view..but Mendoza is that level of prospect.

Prototype size, smarts, leader of men...questionable arm strength and some individual warts but a nice QB prospect that will have a nice career in the NFL.

If you dont think Tom Brady was on that sideline and thought anything less than ol boy is a dawg that he'd be excited to have...idk what to tell you.

Baker Mayfield and Pat Mahomes once had an underrated classic when they were at OU and TTech. Cal v. Miami last year reminds me of that now with Cam and Ferny.

Fernando Mendoza has never not won. Won every year in middle school even as a backup. Took COLUMBUS to their only two state titles. Won a Natty at Indiana.

Hes gonna be just fine in the NFL.

As Cam Newton would say, GAME MANAGER!!! A number one overall pick QB should be a play making game changer. Mendoza aint it!!!

it wasn't really in his hands…He made a **** of a play just to reach around and back hand that ball.

There's something skittish or nervous about Mendoza's play. I haven't been a fan of his NFL prospects since I watched our Cal game last year and nothing I've seen this year has really changed my mind. He throws a nice deep ball and has a good feel for the game. Good accuracy, particularly on back shoulder stuff, but I've seen NFL defenses humble good QBs and I just think he'll be overwhelmed at the NFL level.

feels like his ceiling is Jared Goff. But I don't know what to make of him since his entire role at IU is RPOs then back shoulder fades when a conversion is needed
I was thinking Goff while reading through these comments. Context matters as well. The Raiders basically need everything. Crosby is amazing but being wasted. They have a good young RB and TE. I’d almost say they’re better off giving Crosby a chance to win somewhere, getting draft capital for the OL, and letting Mendoza grow with the young guys. Hate to say trade him (Crosby) bc he’s absolutely everything you want. I just hate to see him there at this point.
