Teams were giving rewards for turnovers long before Miami. Most were handing out Championship belts, boxing gloves, or shoulder pads with accessories on top. The chain was just the best of the bunch, hence the popularity.

I say give it out or don't ever bother using it again. If you don't use it today but then decide to bring it out for a game like FSU, that'll look gimmicky. It's either a tradition at Miami or it's not. Don't pick and choose based on the quality of opponent.
 
Timing makes all the difference in the world as far as perception.

If we broke it out while beating on LSU = AMAZING
Breaking it out for the first time against SSU = embarrassing

Agree with this take. Not sure why everyone is hating on the Chain right now. It's a lot of fun against the right opponent. If we had 4 turnovers and won the LSU game, we'd all be loving it.

However, I think we all agree it is lame against Savannah State.
 
How about an "Overthrow Chain"?

The wide receivers could give it to each other on the sidelines everytime one of Malik's patented moonballs sails 20 feet over their heads..

Agreed.

Claiming any swagger while beating one of the worst teams in D2 is a joke.

Miami should be embarrassed to have scheduled this game.
