Pass. Disaster part IV.
What are people's opinion of ed orgeron?
Jeremy Pruitt is a name I can get on board with easily
smfh
Only knock against him is limited experience...everything else is a home run
Defensive guru and elite elite recruiter
He's been a DC for 19 games. Randy was more experienced, more impressive results, and as good of a recruiter. You do not hire rookie HCs, particularly from the college ranks, to run the Miami Hurricanes. It DOES. NOT. ****_ING. WORK.
The best Miami could do at this point is Mario...and unfortunately I'm serious.
And I said "best they could do", not the best choice.
Let's entertain this for a second. Why do you believe this?
Pluses to coaching at Miami:
fertile recruiting area
Negatives to coaching at Miami:
Low budget
No home stadium
questionable fanbase...at best.
Probation, although minor
Reputation
Being held to a history that is no longer reasonable aka No one will ever do what Miami did, let it go
WOW-- you had to reach a bit there, huh? I'll give you the no "home stadium" but the rest are easily overcome with competent coaching. This list is very shortsighted.
And I think you're selling this storied program waaaaaaaaaay short. There isn't a team/program in the country that's better stocked and able to win immediately, than here. I'm well-acquainted with the "lack of fan support" argument, but with what these fans have been subjected to in the latter part of this decade, do you really blame them for not flocking to sun-lifeless stadium?
Reputation? Really? Probation???? gimme a break.
Look at programs where up & coming coaches are getting it done-- some in tougher conferences than ours, and theyre doing it with far fewer resources than what Miami offers. And you really think this job is a 2nd tier? You must have become a "fan" under Coker Shannon, or Golden is all I can conclude.
There are coaches who would give their left nut for this job, and produce a far better product than Golden does. And Mario ain't even on the list if you ask me.
And what exactly convinces you that Jeremy Pruitt, a guy that has held 11 jobs in 17 years (mostly high schools) is the right guy? Is it his reputation for ruffling feathers of his colleagues, being difficult to work with? Perhaps the way he left FSU in the middle of a renegotiation for more money? I'm just wondering.
A lot of this post is irrelevant.
1. The Number of Jobs / The Number of Years and High School: I don't care if the guy had 100 jobs over the last 10 months. If I was in charge, the question(s) I would ask would be did all these moves make sense? Why did he move?
Remember there is no set process for moving up the coaching ladder. In addition, these coaches are hungry. I have no issue with a guy moving around (assuming it wasn't for illogical reasons or being fired) and trying to move up quickly.
1991-2005: Gus Malzahn worked in HS. He joined Arkansas in 2006. That means he coached longer in HS then in College. Does that mean we shouldn't take him?
These coaches are not ALL born into college football. They have to come from somewhere. They move their way up the ladder after having success and making the most of opportunities.
2. Who said Pruitt is difficult to work with? Where did you get this from?
3. I like Pruitt. He is young and energetic. I think he is hungry, I think he knows how to recruit and he has worked under great coaches. I don't care that most of his jobs were in HS. I care about his track record/success. I think Pruitt will get a decent HC gig this off-season. The question is do we want to be the team that gives him his first HC gig.

The answer, given our recent track record of hiring college coordinators and inexperienced unproven coaches in their early 40s, is **** NO. I like Pruitt as a coach. I absolutely cannot comprehend how anyone who was watched this team for the last decade thinks hiring a college coordinator at this school at this time is a good idea.
You want a great recruiting, solid x and os SEC coach? Buy Mark Stoops or Dan Mullen. Or go get an NFL guy like Butch and Howard were. Or get Butch himself.

So Gus Malzhan in 2007 wouldn't have worked? How about in 2010?
At those points he never was an HC in college?

Again, I dont care what works at Auburn or soe other school. Jimbo wasn't a HC either. But what I do know is that I have watched this team through the best of times and the worst, and there is an OBVIOUS PATTERN of what works and doesnt work at THIS SCHOOL.
Honest question, let's say the Admin was willing to bring in Davis. Do you think these two would be potential coordinators (currently unemployed as coaches)?
Chud (OC) and Schiano (DC).

There are coordinators I would take in a 2 seconds.

That is b/c we hired the wrong ones. It is but for our terrible decisions that we have this track record. It isn't the concept that is flawed. It is the decision making that was terrible.
Thank god you don't make decisions. People like you are why we made three wretched hires in a row. Coker and Shannon were as accomplished if not more than any of these coordinators you mentioned......It does not work here. It has not worked it. And during a period that is the worst since the 1970's you do not take a risk on something that has proven to fail at Miami.

We hired the wrong ones huh. How do you know that these coordinators are the right ones? What is it that they have that Randy and Coker didn't that you know of? Please let us know how Jeremy Pruitt is a safer bet than Randy was. It's easy in hindsight to say "Randy was the wrong choice, Pruitt would be the right one", yet you can't tell anyone why that is.

Yes. We hired the wrong ones. The reason RS shouldn't have been hired is because you don't hire coordinators from failed regimes in their first HC gig. It makes no sense. There is a reason RS doesn't have a coordinator gig till this day. As for Coker, why would anyone give him an extension? He would have gotten an opportunity for sure.
How is Gus not the right one? Did you see Auburn? It is based on track record and results. It is based on seeing success and being wanted in the market. Gus was wanted and having tremendous results everywhere.
Jeremy seems to be moving up and up. Will be interesting to see how that GA D finishes this year. He isn't my top choice, but he is a candidate I would consider based on this year's results.
Gus Malzahn had been a head coach for as many years as Pruitt's been employed by the time he was hired by Auburn. I just...whatever.Jeremy Pruitt is a name I can get on board with easily
