What's your key matchup of the game?

Dawson vs Mario
Beck vs Ghosts

Real: our EDGE vs Marcel Reed.

We need a strong set edge to minimize his running threat, and we need to convert pressures into sacks.
We need to make them go third and long, this offense the sketch when behind the sticks.

Miami’s defense vs. A&M offense . . . contain QB, hold edge against run & don’t allow WRs to make big plays. Or as coaches like to say - communicate.

Not really a key matchup but rather a key to the game is the chess match between Heatherman and Klein.

We cannot spy Reed and bracket Concepcion at the same time. Pick your poison. Can we contain Reed and force him to be a passer? Can our corners cover Concepcion? Can we tackle in space?

Heatherman needs to find a way to slow down that offense without over compensating by focusing on any one single player. A&M has playmakers all over the field. Too many weapons to isolate.

Looking forward to seeing what he comes up with.

BTW, it’s been quite some time since I’ve had confidence knowing that coaching will determine the outcome of the game. That’s historically a weakness for this program. We’ve relied more on talent, than coaching.

Our DL (really our run defense) vs their OL. If they are able to run on us with their RBs we will have to win a shootout, which is dicey af with our offense. If they can only run with Reed on broken plays or QB runs, I like our chances. If they can't run at all, I love our chances.

I’m here as well. If we can control the line, slowdown the running game and get Reed uncomfortable with 4 DL without blitzing “too” much, it’s going to be a long day for them. If not, things get real dicey.

Carson Beck vs. The Pass Rush

The plays will be there (ATM secondary is very suspect and their LB's bite at everything). Beck just has to go back to UGA days (the good ones) and realize this is an elite SEC pass rush he's facing which means his processing/decision making has to be a second faster than normal.

He may even need to out up close to 50 yds or somewhere around there on the ground. But the ball as to come out quick on pass plays.

This is the type of game where he earns his pay.

Yup. Unless we have crazy turnovers/bad luck I like our chances to score in the low-mid 30s on offense against their defense, but if we have to score in the high30s/40s I do not like our chances to win this game. I don't think they score that many points against us unless they are able to run the ball on us (or get special teams/defensive tds)

Our OL vs their DL. Beck is not nearly as good under pressure. If A&M can disrupt our passing game they have a much better chance to win. Will be interesting to see how we choose to attack on Offense. Do we continue to show some creativity in our play calling?

Our LBs are going to be tested in space. When Marcel Reed starts to run they must step up and stop him.
This.

Miami needs a spy on Reed at all times....then you bracket Concepcion. How many times the last 10-15 years have we seen a QB tear us up running the ball?

In the ND game, on the 3 scoring drives in the 4th quarter, CJ Carr had 5 runs, 3 for 1st downs and 1 for a TD.
Castellanos ran for 75 yards (if you remove sack yardage), which included runs of 10, 15, and 18 yards. You can't allow those chunk plays against A&M. They are too good and will take advantage of those.
Drones had 72 yards (if you remove sack yardage). VT as a team ran for 194.

We need a defensive effort like we saw against Byrum Brown - 13 carries, 2 yards. He only had 2 runs over 2 yards, each of which was 6 yards. That's how this D needs to tighten up against Reed. Reed averages 5.2 yards per carry.....you can't give him easy 1st Downs.
