What's wrong with our jet sweeps?

Blocking. We can always expect one guy to whiff on these plays and it's a wrap. It has nothing to do with who is running them.

I think it’s the timing of the play call. I’m not sure how often we’ve faked it, either. They seem to be sniffed out pretty quickly.

This^^

also, those jet sweeps (and fakes) work a lot better when you snap it BEFORE the WR is past the QB, that way the D won’t know if it’s a fake or not. We constantly snap it after the WR is past the QB or when he is right behind him, clueing the D that it’s a fake. The rams of 2017 and 2018 had it mastered until the NFL caught on, set up play action and everything. LB’s couldn’t react Incase it was a fake, had to keep their eyes in the backfield for an extra couple moments to dissect the play, and that made the difference.

Teams are attacking the LOS and not respecting anything coming over the top. Now that Jarren is hitting guys in stride 40 yards down field this may change and help us set the edge a lot better. The deep ball and OL giving Jarren time is gonna continue to open everything up for this offense.

Really looking forward to seeing this happen...

But I can't recall a single jet sweep that's worked for big yardage this season. Most of them are getting stuffed pretty quickly.

5:09 in the From the Perch video - it wasn't a jet sweep that went for a big play, but was a fake jet sweep that allowed us to pass for one

As long as they work well enough where the fakes hold the downhill pressure and take a defender out of the box or out of they play they’re doing their job

Yep.

We just gotta stick with the downhill runs especially inside zone.

Using Brevin to kick out and cutting underneath him works well for us too. We don’t set the edge well enough to run outside as much as we try too.

Louisville was committed to making us one dimensional and it opened things for Jarren. Keep setting the tone with downhill physicality even if it is tough sledding sometimes. DJ and Cam will break loose, especially late in the game.
