I vaguely remember his recruitment and then he began popping up in games the latter half of the season and seemed to be getting positive reviews.

Any opinions on the young man? Will he be in the mix to get a lot of burn next year?

Yes, of course. Kid saw burn early on STs then started getting burn with the defense. Kid showed great hitting power and range. Just needs to learn the playbook a little better, but I fully expect him, Carter, and Hall to lock down the safety spots for the next 3-4 years.

Love this! Thanks!

He played Nickel for us. I'd bet staff is treating him in a similar manner to Jaquan who played in the slot until last year when he became full time safety.

Bandy was our starter at nickel, but when he got hurt in the ACC championship game Smith came in. Smith ended up playing like 55 snaps vs Clemson. Any time a true frosh gets that many snaps in the conference championship game, its a good indication he's been doing well.

You can throw Gilbert and possibly lil Al in to that mix too.

Going back to his HS type, he track the ball very well in flight. Something our safeties haven't done well in a while.

Solid player... I can see him playing SAM next year... didn't realize his size until I talked with him at the awards banquet.. he is just a bit smaller than McCloud with the same build

Agree I always thought he was a LB all the way, he has very good range and would be a baller at sam.

Like franchise stated in another thread our inept approach to LB recruiting has to be in line with someone being moved from another position to LB.

Underrated post

Noticed that more than his hitting. If that’s possible

He’s something like 6’3” 190 now? Would make a nasty FS ihmo. Paired up w Carter playing SS? OOoOWWWEEE!

He's one of the guys that makes me excited about the 4-2-5 that Pete brought up a few months ago. Would fit that hybrid DB/LB role to a T.

Overlooked recruit from North FL.

Tough, great range, physical.

Had an offer from schools like VT. Typical kind of kid they sign that turns into a 4 year PITA for us. Glad we got him and not them.

As well as he played, he has a ton of upside still.

Agree with all of the comments.

Excited to see what he does after a spring and a summer in the weight room. Looks like the kind of guy that can add weight and stilll maintain his athleticism.

Whether it’s Safety or Sam - he’s going to be play a lot next year.

I think he’s a solid 6’2 215.

One of my favorite players from the last signing class. He’s going to be very valuable over the next three years. A versatile move piece that can play every down and possibly even play a different role on each of 1st down, 2nd, and 3rd.

Remember back in 2000, special teams were fierce largely because of younger DBs and KLBs. Carl Walker, Marshall, McGlover, Weaver. All exceptional STs players.
