What's Elite About Fsu Staff?

You don't need an all star staff to win. You need a properly run program that has solid coaches and that can recruit very well. I think so far we have those ingredients. Just need the S&C coach to seal the deal.

The staff as it stands now (aside from the S&C coach) is good enough to make the playoffs and win it all. They just have to recruit on par with FSU, Clemson, etc. If Richt and staff can do that then we will be in great shape

If anything I think that FSU proves that point that you dont have to have elite coaches at every position. Just at certain ones. I agree that Haggins is elite. Not sure about Trickett yet but he is very good. I dont like throwing the word elite around too much. But I agree that they are def doing some right over there in the S&C dept.

Fans getting angry and wanting to start a riot over who are DB and S coaches are need to use FSU as an example. I couldnt even tell you who the **** their DB coach was but I know he gets the job done AND they get elite level HS DBs wanting to play for him.... Name recognition dont matter. If Rumph/Bandy develop these kids thats all that matters.

Exactly. Jizzbo is a bright guy. They are doing a lot of really cutting edge stuff in their prep and recovery areas. He's put a ton of emphasis in making them state of the art in the strength, nutrition and recovery technology.

Besides, Bama's staff isn't completely comprised of future Hall of Fame coaches. Most of their fan base hates Kiffin and Cristobal. Who's their WR coach? I couldn't even tell you.

If you scrutinize these staffs, they don't look "elite." For example, Urban Meyer hired some guy who had been a WR coach for one year at Temple or something like that.

We have no idea how good/bad some of these random assistants are.

Agreed, go back and look at the coaching trees of our NC's teams. They were loaded with some of the best in the game. I'm not saying compete on a money level with bama, but you need very solid to great coaches across the board. You can't under sell that.

But that's in retrospect. Jimmy was a virtual unknown. Who the **** was Butch Davis in 1986?

In 10 years, Ephraim Banda could be out of coaching, or he could be a DC.

Maybe on the national scene, but not in coaching circles. How do you think Sam found him. What he did at Okie State was impressive. Davis was with JJ since 79' I believe, and didn't become the DL coach till they got to Miami.

But my point was the fans didn't know how good the staff was at point. I doubt people were freaking out one way or the other when Tommy Tuberville got hired.

Darn good, and yet, overrated. For many years, FSU has had the horses to absolutely dominate the national championship hunt, and yet, every year he would lose "that game", his own version of Clemsoning. Winston put him over the top, without him, they are a different team. <P>With EVERYTHING that FSU has had over the canes the past two years, the Canes easily win those games with a break or two.

Rick Trickett and Odell Haggins are elite IMO. Other than that, nothing special. Dawsey has tons of talent at WR, but they have underwhelmed since Benjamin left. Is that THE Bill Miller of the second worst DC to ever coach at Miami? To his credit the delta between him and Doh'Nofrio is vast...

I agree. We will beat them this year. The last two years our players were better than theirs but their coaching was much better than ours. This year, our players are still better and if their staff is better it is not a big enough delta for them to win. Mark can actually make adjustments and call plays after the opening script runs out.

Sam lucked into JJ. He ran into him in elevator and asked JJ if he thought some other coach(the one Sam wanted) would like coaching near the ocean. JJ said "I LIKE THE OCEAN!" Take that accident away and we never have JJ and that monster staff with the greatest recruiter in history.

Listen, if it were not for Jameis, they would not have a Natty... It's that simple. Unless your Alabama, who runs a professional NFL team, you need a Heisman type QB and some luck to make it to the show.

Bama competes every year without a Heisman QB because of they have a Heisman candidate RB and future candidates as depth and a ridiculous defense. The game is about having better players. You can't coach a team of 2 star athletes to the championship anymore. Kids don't fly under the radar like that anymore.

They recruit at an elite level in a terrible conference. As said before, Jimbo has his best coaches in the trenches and he made sure the S&C part of it is top notch. Before Dabo stop getting in his own way, who exactly did Jimbo had to beat on yearly basis? All he has to do was out talent everybody to get the ACC championship since he was the best coach by default. They would then play whatever terrible team from the Coastal. If Pruitt was still there, there staff will be elite. He was/is a beast of a DC/Recruiter. He definitely saw Pruitt star before anybody else. I would say this though, I would give Jimbo credit for changing the culture from the Bowden days.
