What Would You Like To See Improve

One positive from the App game was the outside zone that they had a problem with in the first half - App gained over 100yds on those plays.
In the 2nd half after adjustments - 10 carries for 13yds.

With Kaaya struggling the 1st 2 games and our running game going off, App St definitely sold out to stop the run. Right and Kaaya had an answer for that and burned them with RPO's and long plays. Stretching the defence horizontally and vertically with smart play calls.

Realistically we will know what we're about after this month.

Pinckney looks more like a MLB to me than Shaq Quarterman.

I like the idea of a big, strong MLB who can take on blocks but 56 appears to have crazy good instincts.

I'd like to see Owens-Pinckney-McCloud with Shaq rotating in at both mike and will.

If anyone needs to sit some it would be McCloud. He has let a few TEs run free as he is looking in the backfield. Shaq has done a good job IMO.

Besides for getting healthy (Owens, Patchan, Jenkins, Colbert, Bruce), I'd say our pass defense by our freshmen LB, OL pass blocking, penalties, and offensive consistency.

Shaq seems to be in the right position all the time and is doing fine. This is more about maximizing Pinckney's ability. Shaq looks a step slower to me. He's got a lot on his plate though. Hard to say exactly where Owens is at physically and mentally but the coaches have been willing to let him play through whatever issues he's got related to the knee. They don't need to make a change but I'm waiting to see what Quarterman brings to the table against GT. That's a huge task.

OFFENSIVE LINE

The pass protection was very good against App State.

The run blocking was god awful.

This right here. Outside of Walton's 80 yards scamper we managed a mere 84 yards on 30 carries I believe. That is flat out atrocious and unacceptable against a physically outmatched opponent like App Store. I'm actually surprised no one has mentioned his before. It is true that the OL was very good in pass protection but against a stout P5 DL.......As of right now this OL is average. That's not a knock on our guys just my observation.
Edit update....I just re watched the game and App Store was loading the box and selling out to stop the run. I would still like to see more toughness and physicality from this line going forward but I'm confident we will see that.

To be fair I have noticed significant improvement from last year and this unit will IMO steadily improve over the course of the season. What really lowers their ceiling however is the lack of a LT. The group needs an infusion of elite talent at the Tackle position in a bad way.

THANK YOU for being diligent and checking the film again before you were sure.

I don't think the O-line is very good but we have to watch how we critique if we want to be fair.

I agree that Shaq has looked a step slow but he also has more OL trying to block him, has to process more information pre and post snap...vs playing outside which is more pure instincts. Shaq could use another year in the program before being forced to start. Mark must feel blessed to have three amazing freshmen LBers and guys like Perry, Owens, and smith stepping up

Another is special teams.... When was the last time we had a big kick off or punt return for a td(other than last yr at duke). Hester or roscoe? I know it's happened to us a lot... I want us to finally do that to a team

Uh, did you forget about Stacy Coley?

I remember him taking one back against Pitt. So did Benjamin, Lamar Miller, Duke, and probably more

not against pitt, sorry. We lost vs duke that yr he returned one. Duke returned one vs va, guess what, we lost. Travis returned one vs osu, lost that one too, ****, lamar returned a kick off that same game......I want one where it changes the game for us and we actually win...like the hester one vs louisville....roscoe vs virginia and the one he had vs florida in the peach bowl.

LB play... I know they are freshmen but they will have to get better... in coverage...getting off blocks...eye discipline.. Shaq tells me its a different world in the middle... The OLs are quicker stronger and more importantly smarter... the schemes are more complex meaning all his ques tells him the play is going right but then goes left.. example the guard he is queing pulls right but the ball goes left... i tell him it will come with at bats but he needs to study film at a deeper level... not only looking for scheme but also his que's tendency...next level got to step it up...

Speaking of kick offs, I thought we stopped doing that ****goty, arm lock, rocking sideways dance on the opening kick. There's like half the team doing it, it's off beat, people going in different directions... it just looks bad. It really isn't the type of movement that people in South Florida would even do. Maybe if they played something like the intro to Swag Surfin the crowd could get in to it, but I really hope the just stop it.
