I don't understand why people are butthurt about the Penn state thing. A grown man explored his options, so what? Now his coaching on the other hand is a fireable offense.
Because he said, "**** Miami." for Penn State. As a fan of the school, a guy who said, "There's going to be a lot of people who aren't standing with us/we've got a lot of people bunkering down/I stand with the U/etc.." and then pulled that unprofessional stunt is infuriating. The fact that you don't see the problem is concerning.
He didn't say that. He looked into a job at his home school which would have probably paid him more. How old are you? There's nothing unprofessional about that. There's plenty of stuff not to like about his coaching but quit being so butthurt. It's a business and he's a grown man. Leaving would have been a smart move for him.
He obviously didn't literally say, "**** Miami." But his behavior said, "**** Miami." It was the middle of recruiting season and official visits when he was missing in action and he told nobody at the school what he was doing. How old or mature are you? Evidently not very if you think shutting off contact with your employer when you don't have a job in your pocket is the right way to go about things. That's the definition of unprofessional when you leave your boss twisting in the wind and refuse to speak with them for days. If you're a Burger King employee and then don't go to work for three days because you're interviewing with McDonald's and you ignore repeated attempted contact from your boss, you get fired.
You're the one flying in to defend him. Sit on a donut with that serious case of butt hurt that you have. It is business and his conduct was as unprofessional as it could be. Don't go to work for three days and don't answer contact attempts from your boss and let me know how that works out for you. Pull your head out of the sand and grow up.
