Get your head out of the sand. You're using the technique of, "I wasn't there, therefore no amount of evidence can prove it to me." There's literally troves of articles and information showing that Golden went to Penn State begging hands and knees for the job and didn't get it. Unless you think the team, the recruits, and Shalala were lying, Golden is the liar. Penn State never confirmed that they spoke with anybody but Franklin who was hired on January 11th even though O'Brien was announced as the Texans coach on January 2nd. So during those nine days Penn State didn't speak to anybody except Franklin near the end of that span? Get out of here with that nonsense. And you'll probably use some arbitrary definition of what constitutes as, "reputable," to fit your argument. Miami would never confirm that their coach was looking else where after how much they hyped him up and Penn State would never confirm that they had illegally tampered with another school's coach. I sincerely hope you are not being this ignorant to the point of stupid and whiny.

Al Golden tried to **** over Miami and get the Penn State job and lied to everyone involved to do it. There's statements from players the team, the recruits, and the administration confirming this. There's enough news outlet sources to also confirm this. But since there's not an article written by USA Today rehashing all of this and since Al Golden dignity confirm it, then it must be false. Kindly crumple up that foolish idea. It's a proven fact that for some odd reason you are unable and unwilling to accept.

Because he said, "**** Miami." for Penn State. For me, there is nothing he can do this season. He has a decade long track record of being a subpar coach in big games, having slow, soft scared defenses and a 5+ year record of poor recruiting choices (not poor recruiting in general but rather the types of kids he pursues). He'd have to show me these things for 2+ years without interruption. In short, he'd have to change nearly everything he is and does. For that reason I just cannot see it.



BTW - I don't hold the Penn State situation against him. I have no problem with a coach exploring certain opportunities. We rag on golden for being a jersey boy. Given that, I think he HAD TO pursue the Ped State opportunity. I do not begrudge him that.

I begrudge him very much the way he handled it. As an adult exploring his options, he handled it very much like a child.

He didn't say that. He looked into a job at his home school which would have probably paid him more. How old are you? There's nothing unprofessional about that. Neither school is going to confirm that a current college head coach is interviewing for another college job. When have you ever heard of that? The interviews are held in secret so everyone can have plausible deniability.

But let's use a little common sense. Does this sound like a guy who didn't interview for a job?



The "is-he-or-isn't-he" saga of University of Miami coach Al Golden continued Saturday, with several reports saying that the former Penn State player interviewed in South Florida with a search committee seeking the Nittany Lions' next head coach.

Golden, the former Temple coach who has spent three seasons with the Hurricanes, appeared to be a priority of the committee, if not the top priority, among the reported top three candidates being pursued to succeed Bill O'Brien.

However, in a text Saturday to writers for the Miami Herald and South Florida Sun-Sentinel, Miami athletic director Blake James said: "Al & I are in regular communication. He is our coach & I believe he will be our coach going forward."

The Herald received an e-mail response on the subject Saturday night from Miami president Donna Shalala, who said: "We don't know anything yet."

For me, there is nothing he can do this season. Exactly. Like I said, you're free to explore other options, but that doesn't mean that you can neglect your current position in the interim. He went ghost, and I expressly remember a recruit decommitting, because he said that he couldn't get in touch with Golden and didn't feel comfortable being committed to a school where the coach's future was so up in the air. I'm sorry, but that's inexcusable.

SFbayCane, if you interview with another company, do you fail to show up to your current gig while waiting to hear back from the potential new employer? Do you drop the ball on important assignments, fail to report to your boss, and then crawl back, refusing to answer questions about it, when you get rejected? By all means, do not begrudge him exploring other options, but I absolutely cannot imagine not begrudging that.

The past 4 seasons leave slim to no hope that he could appear anything more than subpar, but what do you feel would have to happen for you to view him in a more positive light and no longer request for Butch, Chip or whomever else? Just wondering....

I'm surprised no one has mentioned his demeanor after failing to get the Ped. St. job. The guy moped around for weeks looking like somebody shot his dog and ran off with his wife. His actions were so far out of character with his carefully groomed public image it was remarkable. And all that was after a total collapse of this team after starting 7-0. At that point, I moved him from "failed coach" to "total fraud".

Frankly, I was unaware of the things you mentioned above. I just thought that he quietly met with Ped State. If what you are saying is true, then yes I would have an issue with that. And I can say that in my career, I've left one market leader in my industry for another. I know how tricky it can be. You MUST be as professional as possible.

He obviously didn't literally say, "**** Miami." But his behavior said, "**** Miami." It was the middle of recruiting season and official visits when he was missing in action and he told nobody at the school what he was doing. How old or mature are you? Evidently not very if you think shutting off contact with your employer when you don't have a job in your pocket is the right way to go about things. That's the definition of unprofessional when you leave your boss twisting in the wind and refuse to speak with them for days. If you're a Burger King employee and then don't go to work for three days because you're interviewing with McDonald's and you ignore repeated attempted contact from your boss, you get fired.

You're the one flying in to defend him. Sit on a donut with that serious case of butt hurt that you have. It is business and his conduct was as unprofessional as it could be. Don't go to work for three days and don't answer contact attempts from your boss and let me know how that works out for you. Pull your head out of the sand and grow up.
