What would it take?

You have evidence of this? So far all I have seen is internet rumors, with no basis in fact that this ever even occurred.

There were swirling rumors that he interviewed with Penn State (rumors on the Miami side, rumors on the Penn St side, as well as rumors from non-affiliated media members), which coincided with Golden going off the grid for an entire weekend. The AD tried to cover it up by saying he'd been in contact with Golden, but Shalala superseded him and said they had NOT been in contact with Al Golden.

You will never get the "evidence" you ask for, but it's obvious what went down.

Again, only internet rumors, no confirmation with actual news articles from reputable reporters saying that they confirmed with the Penn State and/or Miami administrations that a meeting between Golden and Penn State actually occurred.

Al Golden won't be returning to Penn State after all.

Golden on Sunday reaffirmed his commitment to Miami a day after meeting with Penn State's search committee, a source told ESPN's Brett McMurphy. Several media outlets reported that Golden, a former Penn State tight end and assistant coach, had or soon would accept the Penn State job, but it's not happening.

"There has been much speculation concerning my future at the University of Miami," Golden said in a prepared statement. "While I am flattered that our progress at The U during an extremely difficult period of time is recognized, I am also appreciative of just what we have here at UM and I am not a candidate for another position. We are eager to welcome our student athletes back to campus next week and visit with prospective student-athletes and their families beginning January 15."

Golden appeared to be a good fit for Penn State's vacancy, as he is a current college head coach with strong ties to the school who had done well at Temple and handled a difficult situation at Miami.

ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports that Penn State on Sunday interviewed Mike Munchak, who was fired Saturday as Tennessee Titans coach. Munchak is a former offensive linemen at Penn State. Vanderbilt coach James Franklin also is on Penn State's radar. The Commodores completed their season Saturday.

Penn State defensive line coach Larry Johnson, also serving as the school's interim head coach, will interview with the search committee at some point. Athletic director Dave Joyner said Thursday that the search will take days not weeks.

It would appear that Alfraud had indeed had some bit of conversation with the Pedo State search committee after all. He's the true definition of a loser, just face the facts.

Neither school is going to confirm that a current college head coach is interviewing for another college job. When have you ever heard of that? The interviews are held in secret so everyone can have plausible deniability.

But let's use a little common sense. Does this sound like a guy who didn't interview for a job?

The "is-he-or-isn't-he" saga of University of Miami coach Al Golden continued Saturday, with several reports saying that the former Penn State player interviewed in South Florida with a search committee seeking the Nittany Lions' next head coach.

Golden, the former Temple coach who has spent three seasons with the Hurricanes, appeared to be a priority of the committee, if not the top priority, among the reported top three candidates being pursued to succeed Bill O'Brien.

However, in a text Saturday to writers for the Miami Herald and South Florida Sun-Sentinel, Miami athletic director Blake James said: "Al & I are in regular communication. He is our coach & I believe he will be our coach going forward."

The Herald received an e-mail response on the subject Saturday night from Miami president Donna Shalala, who said: "We don't know anything yet."

Penn State reportedly interviews Al Golden - philly-archives

*****************************

Golden addressed the media after at least four days of speculation that he was being courted by, and eventually interviewed by, his alma mater Penn State when Nittany Lions coach Bill O’Brien resigned to become coach of the Houston Texans

Golden never mentioned Penn State by name, and opened his session by saying, “It’s humbling and it’s flattering and it’s a testament to our staff and student-athletes that other people expressed interest in us and like I said yesterday, I’m excited about where we’re going here at [UM] and excited about our student-athletes coming back next week.”

While this rampant speculation was ongoing, several recruits, players, and parents said they couldn't get in contact with Golden.

You HONESTLY don't think he interviewed for the job?

When the former players who helped make the program great are welcomed with open arms and openly endorse him AND they win the ACC AND end up in the top ten with no more than one loss.

Can't this happen once the sanctions are done?

Just go back and look at the defense the past few years. Golden has emasculated a brand that was once great. If he wins the ACC, gets UM into the playoffs and runs up the score on every team he faces ... lol, look at what I just typed.

There is nothing he can do that would change my opinion of him, nothing. He tried leaving and lied about it. He refused to make the necessary changes to his coaching staff out of stubbornness. He's made life as a canes fan miserable.

Face him, his family and anyone who still supports him.

You have evidence of this? So far all I have seen is internet rumors, with no basis in fact that this ever even occurred. As far as him thinking about the job at Penn State, he went to school there, and I am sure he did at least give it some thought. So what, ultimately he stayed with Miami.

Now back to the topic at hand, I would want him to win at least 10 games, go to the ACC championship game, and win a bowl game.

Fraulden The Incompetent has burned too many bridges with too many fans.

To state that he could somehow return to the fans' graces isn't going to be possible because, as history has shown, the corch is a LOSER. Miami DEMANDS championship teams. LOSERS can not deliver championships.

Anyway, he's feeling the PRESSURE!

Firing Day is 65 away.

Swallow a shotgun

Seriously... He has to beat FSU, win the ACC and, since the ACC is garbage, also beat a legit power 5 (Bama, LSU, OSU, Mich.State..) team in a bowl game. Cause I don't think winning the ACC this year is even an accomplishment. So seeing how that's impossible for him....I'd fire him today

Remember when He told ya'll "I'm not a candidate for another job"?...well He lied...He was still a candidate for the PSU job when He made that comment.
He was PSU's alternative option if contract talks with Franklin fell through, and they did NOT, and He's been butthurt ever since.

If he didn't interview with Penn State, then he would have said that he didn't interview with Penn State. When a coach continually evades a question, it's obvious to anyone with common sense what the answer is. Never mind the fact that our school's president publicly admitted to being unable to get in touch with him, and there were recruits who were trying to reach him, but could not for days on end. We actually ended up losing recruits over it. So sorry, but it's been substantiated. And it hurt our program.

Want to take a shot at returning to your alma mater? Fine. But that doesn't mean that you can just neglect the job you DO have while waiting to hear on another. He had a responsibility to keep up with recruiting, and he failed. That was the turning point for me.

Well he was for sure lying to school about whatever he was doing.

Here's Blake James saying that he's in constant contact with Al despite the fact that nobody had contact with him from the media. Miami AD Blake James says Al Golden remains the right choice | FOX Sports

And here's Donna Shalala on the same day saying, "we don't know anything yet." Al Golden's silence a reminder this is all just business | Eye on the U So glorified puppet Blake James is in constant contact with Al Golden but the school president, arguably the most powerful person in the history of the school, is being kept out of the lope after three days of Golden missing? Absolutely not. And if Blake was in constant communication with Al, why was Donna kept in the dark? Furthermore, multiple recruits at the time, Chad Thomas and Anthony Moten being most notable among them, Tweeted that they had been trying to contact Golden for days and he never responded to them. Current players said that had heard nothing from him during this whole saga.

So that's plenty of evidence just for a start. I guess it's just a little bit more than just internet rumors and it's based in quite a lot of fact. Another posted pulled up that a private flight had left from Miami to Happy Valley exactly when Golden would have been MIA. After Penn State told him to take a walk and hired Franklin, he magically reappeared with the body language of somebody who had just been told by their parent that they didn't love him anymore.

As far as your next comment of, "So what, ultimately stayed with Miami." you can take that attitude and shove it. He preached about how great the school is and used that energy as his mechanism for recruiting and talked about bunkering down and all that jazz and then said, "**** y'all. I want that Penn State job." without so much as a backwards glance and kept the recruits, team, and the administration in the dark looking stupid. He made it very clear that Miami was his second option and as a fan of the school and program, that ****es me off with the way he handled it but you seem to think that's fine and would lead me to believe you're a bigger Al Golden fan than a fan of program if you just want to be deliberately ignorant about how unprofessional he was with the school. It's interesting that you think being second banana in the mind of the head coach is okay.

I sincerely hope you're smarter than this and not being obtuse. He clearly gave it more than some thought and basic research could've shown you that. Come on, dude. Don't ignore the real exposure that it was. Ignorance isn't bliss at all.

Do not HATE anybody. If Golden wins 10 games and ACC Coastal I will become his fan again.

I don't understand why people are butthurt about the Penn state thing. A grown man explored his options, so what? Now his coaching on the other hand is a fireable offense.

Great question, OP.

For me, there is nothing he can do this season. He has a decade long track record of being a subpar coach in big games, having slow, soft scared defenses and a 5+ year record of poor recruiting choices (not poor recruiting in general but rather the types of kids he pursues). He'd have to show me these things for 2+ years without interruption. In short, he'd have to change nearly everything he is and does. For that reason I just cannot see it.

BTW - I don't hold the Penn State situation against him. I have no problem with a coach exploring certain opportunities. We rag on golden for being a jersey boy. Given that, I think he HAD TO pursue the Ped State opportunity. I do not begrudge him that.
