The goal was always to get better YoY. We were 5-7. Now we are 4-1. The goalposts have been continually moved whether everyone wants to admit it to themselves or not. Very few people had us at a 10+ win season. I think the national consensus was better than 5 wins, less than 8. It wasn't until we saw the outcome of the TAMU game that everyone started raising the ceiling on what this team was capable of achieving. Still, I think this was a growing year for the Canes. We just need to make and win a bowl and keep stacking recruits which we are on track to doing. If we get anything more out of the season, then okay--it will be a whipped topping.

From any competent coach should win the ACC at Miami to just improve on 5-7…

This place is a wild ride…

8 wouldn't be enough for me. 9+ would make me feel better because it means we won at least 2 of our remaining tough games. 3 big games this year (including A&M) would be a "proof of concept" that shows winning wasn't a fluke and that we're on the right path.

UNC must win
Beat UVA and BC
1 of NCst or Clem (Preferably Clemson)
1 of FSU, Louisville (preferably FSU)
ZERO blowout losses/quit games.

Would make me feel pretty good about being in the right track.
In theory I get your stance… but 3 games is still 3 games. Would be a massive improvement from year 1.

Next year (as always) is the litmus test. If we go 8-4 this year & have a stinker week 1 vs UF we’ll be calling for his head - just like we did manny after an 8-3 year and loss to Bama week 1.

How about: I had concerns about his game day coaching, he started off ok and burned things to ground in 2022, we got back on the wagon, and he just flattened all his tires by making a do not drive over the spikes decision….

Trust is relative. Just ******* win!

If we blow out UNC I’ll be his #1 fan ride or die until the end of days. Those smug hillbillies need to be humbled, and we need to be the ones to do it. Sam Howell catching that Philly special and throwing the U down is seared into my memory. I hate the tar fairies so much dude.

This could snowball. History says it will. Need a win Saturday.

Yep. Those ****ers are due. Miami is due.

Canes are winning on Saturday, only question is by how much.

It's funny because a lot of you guys are acting surprised Mario made a huge bonehead mistake. WE ALL KNEW THIS KIND OF THING WOULD HAPPEN. We were willing to trade the inevitable game day stupidity for top recruiting classes and a chance to build a contender. This was the trade-off. Almost everyone outside a handful of people here knew this when we got him. Jimmys and Joes, not X's and O's right?

The wild ride is naught from me. The outlook I had prior to the season (9-3) has not changed 6 weeks deep--but it would seem that the opinion of the floor for this team had lifted for many. In the preseason poll, 60% of CiS participants predicted a record of 8 wins or less. Somewhere between TAMU and GTech though, porsters had a change of heart going from 7-8 win season to ACCCG win/CFP bound.

I didn't think 9-3 was good enough for an ACCCG berth given the parity in our conference in the preseason and I don't think it is good enough now. I have always been in the "expect the minimum" camp; a bowl bid and a win. I am clinging for dear life to that 9-3 prediction though. That GTech loss wrecked my margin for error.

Win the ACC Championship this year. Thats not happening with anymore losses. So………

If we go into UNC and win in ANY fashion and then come back and defeat Clemson I will forgive him for GT.

Defeating both teams will put us back into the top 15 and we are 7-1 after UVA going into: Nc state, FSU & Louisville. Our momentum, hope and hype is back. GT will be chalked up as a massive blunder but also a fluke. That offensive performance was a huge display of arrogance by Dawson due to us focusing on UNC and expecting to defeat GT with ease. The defense gave up under 175 Total offensive yards until that debacle in the 4th Q (which I will not hold against them) they have been very strong all year.

@Cribby @JayCane20 @JustAFanHTX @DMoney have all made it clear this team is very capable of success. If our offense goes back to how we operated against A&M and our Defense can remain how it is currently we will win games. Now we just need Mario to raise his IQ a few points so he realizes a knee in the 4th Q is still a thing…

finish 10-2 and use victory formation whenever the game is in hand moving forward. never let what happened last week happen again. Doesnt matter if were up 5 scores. Just kneel the ball

Funny, most predicted a loss to a team we shouldn’t lose to, but now some have zero faith.

In any event the UNC game will be the litmus test for the remainder of the season, IMO

He's never had it, but I was starting to feel that we may be onto something this year. Felt kind of like it did with Coker with the big win against VT to follow it up with a loss to GT once again. I believe that was 2005.

I don't even know what to think, but we'll find out. Confidence in anything is gone for sure though.
