What to expect from TVD going forward.

Lol I’m still in shock that we lost the game in that fashion and didn’t take a knee it out after we had the clock on our side.

Staying away from most media and college football stuff. Doesn’t really feel real lol

Fine? Define "fine". He looked like he had been run over by a truck on Saturday .... dead eyes, no emotion, no spark, no LEADERSHIP. The polar opposite of a kid like Dorsey. TVD is a crap shoot every game. He better enjoy his college football days as football doesn't appear to be a long term career possibility.
I’m no QB guru by any stretch but what I am good at is reading people. TVD mentions confidence a LOT. As if he’s trying to convince himself, not others, that he’s confident in himself and those around him. I don’t believe he’s as confident as he try’s to convey.

TVD also doesn’t speak well. Some is due to his lack of confidence and some is intellect related. He has all the physical tools but doesn’t seem to have the intellectual capacity to handle the pressure of being a D1 QB. Admittedly, he meets with a psychologist on the regular.

In time, as he ages and matures, he may be able to overcome some of these issues and he’s most definitely better than he was a couple of years ago. Time will tell just how far he can take his game if/when he can overcome his lack of confidence.

Dawson won’t say anything to throw the HC under the bus. If Mario has a “never knee the football philosophy he told Dawson to adhere to when they got started together he isn’t going to say that during the press conference.

He’s going to say the same thing Mario said on Joe Rose. “There is no rationalizing it. We should’ve taken a knee.”
No doubt he won’t throw Mario under the bus but I’m still interested to hear what he has to say about that sequence and if questions come up about his game plan.

Passing offense didn't challenge the middle of the field. Most throws were to the boundary, specifically the boundary hash. Most of the night we seemed to cut the field into a third and play inside that. No deep crossers, no go routes, no slants, and nothing up the seams. it was a combo of comebacks and out routes. Wasn't anything like we have seen all season. Something was "off"
I mentioned it leading up to the game.. they were trying to break tendencies and swing the data they were piling up to offset trends.

Tried too hard and clearly weren’t themselves doing what they are best at doing

I feel like, with that epically bad coaching blunder, the bigger issue went largely unnoticed by the media at-large and some even in our own fan base. I honestly don’t know what to think about TVD any more. It seems like he’s been here forever, and I want him to succeed, but I’m beginning to lose faith in him to be “HIM.” It seems like he’ll go through stretches where he looks absolutely amazing, and then when you least expect it, “WHAM!” He looks like hot garbage. I’m concerned when we play UNC, Clemson, and FSU we’re going to get the TVD we saw last night. Hopefully, Saturday night was just a one-off for this season, but, man, where are you guys at with TVD right now?
He's awesome throwing to open players, but has a really hard to throwing open players.
The former is by design of the offense, the latter is when you play zone and you throw to a window anticipating the route runner going into the window (on zone defense).
He does do that to Xavier sometimes.
That's the difference of an NFL QB.

But I agree with your overall premise.

I expect the run game to be a bigger part of the game. Besides TVD‘s erratic play we need to keep NC offense off the field. Just can’t figure TVD out. Does he have girlfriend issues?

Get the ball to your playmakers-

Don’t turn the ball over-

Don’t force stuff that’s not there-

You can win with him when he’s on his game -

He starts thinking he’s Danny Marino with a cannon arm that’s when he gets in trouble-

Just stay within yourself.

What we saw on Saturday was ALWAYS his biggest issue. Inconsistency. Some games he looks lost (UNC first half 2021, GT, 2022 A&M) some games he looks like the second coming of Jesus.

Let’s hope we get the ladder this Saturday.

Yep. Has the stench of last years offense all over it.

Short/intermediate and very vanilla. Check with me. Miscommunications on option routes, whereas the staple of air-raid passing concepts is simplicity and repeatability.

Reeks of Mario Cristobal putting his hands in it for no reason trying to fix something that was never broken. Or trying to hide **** from UNC and Clemson thinking we could just walk through GT.

I was begging for the deep ball all night and the only 2 we threw were huge plays. It was there any time we wanted it and instead we played conservative.
mainly short and intermediate but Dawson did have deep routes. Seemed like it was low to high reads. TVD wasn’t read the zone coverage correctly. Dawson probably need to make it hi to low reads. What’s more concerning is that TVD had all the time to read but still lock on the first read.

I think it was just a poorly called game. It's amazing how those all end up looking similar.

If we really want to ***** up a future opponent, this is the game where you break a few tendencies.

Roman called it out. We keep splitting out TE wide but have yet to throw a ball there. GT wasn't even covering the guys, so toss them one.

The first few porsters and cormmenters on this thread are total mopes and need to change their tampons. TVD was one of the highest rated QB in D1 up until Saturday night. I've watched Joe Montana, Dan Marino and Tom Brady have bad nights. Why should TVD be any different?

Here's one example:
"TVD is a feeble leader and a mental wreck. No passion or rallying of troops. Rather spend time on the golf course."
How in the fucc do you know this? You having dinner with the Van Dyke family?

Here's another:
"the game plan was extremely basic."
We gained over 450 yards on offense. I dgaf how "basic" the plan is. If you're gaining 450 yards of offense, you're gonna win most of the time.....unless you turn the ball over 5 times AND your coach forgets to install victory formation.

And one more:
"Dawson getting out schemed by the LB coach with 1 week of prep is my biggest concern, outside of TVD."
Outschemed? Their D CLEARLY did not want to get beat over the top and they were in a two deep all night. That D dictates to go underneath - which we did - and the run the ball a lot - which we also did. We averaged 5.5 yards per play and ran THIRTY more offensive plays than they did.

The real question? How does he bounce back.
The realer question? Do the porsters purchase their sanitary napkins by the pallet or the truckload?

Was a bit of a train wreck on O all the way around, looks like they went into a shell when it started raining and then couldn't figure out how to open it up when it stopped. He for sure has to own the INTs tho, bad throws and who knows if the finger is still a problem, but he needs to own that was a major part of the problem. That almost pick 6 was dreadful

He’s 22, if he doesnt figure it out in the next 2 games he can go join Josh Rosen selling insurance and raising money for climate change (if you believe global warming is real)

Takes some a little longer to figure things out. He is a high character guy that works hard so he’s ahead of the curve in that regard. Some people are just introverts and that, in and of itself, is difficult to overcome.

He is a good quarterback, but he's not really HIM.

In the mold of some of Rhett Lashlee's old QBs like Shane Buechele, Tanner Mordecai...or even Shannon Dawson's previous QB, Clayton Tune. Not necessarily from a playstyle...but what they'll give you in this type of system.

These are projectable NFL players, but have a ceiling. In this kind of system, Clayton Tune threw for 67%, 4000 yards, and 40/10 (8.2ypa). Tanner Mordecai was a 65% 3500 yards, 33/10 (8.0ypa). In a full season, Shane Buechele was a 62%, 3900 yard, 34/10 (8.0ypa) type guy.

All of these guys are or project to be NFL Draft Picks, but its Day 3 and they make rosters provided they got it between the ears. IMO, TVD is in this kind of tier of QB. He's yet to really play a full season of football since he has been here...and while he might occasionally be better than the aforementioned QBs...same guy, IMO, statistically.

I thought he was turning the corner to a rich man's version of those types of QBs, but that game against Georgia Tech says he's still got that ****** play in him.

As of this morning the forecast for Sat night is 55 degrees and a 60% chance of rain

TVD better be talking to ALL the therapists to get right
Are we ever gonna get a dry game ? Tamu it rained before kickoff and that’s the closest we’ve gotten
