Our backend play is terrible and those busted coverages i know we want to blame Our corners but our safeties are nowhere to be found. The biggest red flag should have been Banda saying he only cares about tackling smh!!

theyre young and inexperienced and only one of them is actually good (hall). we knew the secondary was going to be an issue going in but everyone fell for the stars or hype. that's what happens when you lose redwine and JJ who started back there for two years

regarding tackling, the D scheme relies heavily on the safeties to clean up. JJ led the team tackles if im not mistaken last year and possibly the year before. this has been stated in other threads previously

Safeties did nothing to lose the game Saturday. The LBs were again non-existent and it was clear as day that the staff was completely unprepared for Hooker to be the QB, even though I posted on Sunday that he was going to start and I know absolutely nothing.

He's a one-read and run QB playing his first game, and Miami's defense had absolutely zero gap integrity while rushing the passer and the LBs were vacating the middle of the field like it was contaminated. Poor execution and poor preparation. We also can't cover any tight ends or backs in man to save our lives. The LB play this year has been probably the most disappointing aspect of the entire team, when you factor the expectations.

Carter (Jr)
Knowles (RS Sr.)
Hall (So)

Bubba Bolden's an outlier as he's a RS Freshman and this was his first game with us. But we're not young at safety. We just have crap coaching. And Diaz decided to still hold onto Banda.

This. Pinckney and Shaq were supposed to lead the defense and be the beacon of consistency. They have done little of that. Again, I point to coaching as they seemed to have degraded year-by-year while at Miami.

Knowles (for as much as we dog on him) hasn't been terrible this year (as were used to seeing). count the amount of snaps Hall took last year with Red and JJ back there. Carter isn't good or at least hasn't been this year and hasn't shown much when hes played throughout his career outside of big hits on a Bethune or Sav St kid (or w.e. **** school it was). hall will be fine as he gains more reps and its something AI has mentioned on his pod about the secondary. i do think w diaz being more involved in the play calling, it will help the D and i do think the secondary play will improve. were just too green back there overall since we had long time starters throughout the entire time Diaz was here.

I think shaq had his best year at Miami as a junior where he had 14.5 tfls 6 sacks but he’s regressed so far this year as has Pinckney. Someone who has played even worse than both of those guys is Jonathan garvin. I literally do not know what he’s doing

how can improve when youre not good athletically. theyre going to get eaten alive as teams try to spread us out overall. theyre not athletic at all and are kinda dinosaurs (remember they were signed on for the golden mold in LBs). to mannys credit (at least the ltitle recruiting hes done there), huff brooks all look like theyre what we need at LB.

My point is we're hardly young back there. And Carter was a highly sought after 4-star when he came here. Shaq and McCloud the same. Not saying all players live up to their rankings in HS, because evaluations at that level aren't perfect. When you have 1 4-star bust, it happens. But when I see a ton of players coming in with high rankings and not live up to them, that points me towards development and overall coaching.

he also seems to come off the line late. anyone else notice that or is it me? its tough when you don't have the CTs, Joe Jaxs on the line helping take pressure off of you

Baker would be my first obvious answer. How do our 3 best defensive players degrade at the same time?

He was late off the line last year too

Knowles looked like he improved, and he's nowhere near athletic as his contemporaries.

carter was a 3 star not 4. Shaq is not athletic. hes a dinosaur. McCloud has never put it together here but hes the most athletic of the 3. hall was a high 4 star kid who will be good imo. its also not bout age sometimes, but about experience. we benefitted greatly from having guys take a ton of snaps in the secondary the last 3-4 years
