What personnel do you think we will use when LSU goes 4 wide?

Please then sir. Expound and educate me.
This striker name is what has yall confused. Basically finley and smith are sam LBs now. They play the same position as zach. The difference is they are going to ask finley and smith to play more coverage and zach the run. A real 4-2-5 has 5 DBs not a LB.

So our 4-2-5 is fake?

Gotcha.

When JJ moved DB's to LB and LB's to DL we weren't a real 4-3?

Yeah because guys never change positions here. Derrick Smith and Romeo Finley are Safties and they play striker as well. It has more to do with the responsibilities and coverages than just the names on the back of the jersey.
No finley and smith don't play safety anymore. They are LBs now. They are coached by patke who coaches Sams/striker.

How can you play 4-2-5 with a striker? Are you saying take shaq or pickney out and put in a sam?
They have talked about it in all the videos. in the 4-2-5 they remove McCloud and bring in Finley/Smith at Striker as a 5th DB.

Zach plays striker and this isn't a 4-2-5 defense.

Half correct. McCloud is listed at both striker and Strong Side linebacker (sam). The coverage responsibilities at striker are not the same as they are at Sam. It's why a lot of people here were disappointed that neither D. Smith nor Finley could put a clamp on the starting striker position because Mc Cloud is often lost in coverage and he'll be asked to cover slot receivers man to man occasionally and he's looked terrible doing that in the past too. So technically while Mc Cloud is a linebacker, while he's lined up at Striker, he'd be considered a DB.

Think of it like in 2016 when Jaquan was our nickel. He was listed as a safety but when he was asked to play nickel, he was technically a corner.

Its the same position. Its just like subbing a run stopping d-linemen for a pass rusher on obvious passing downs. That is what this is. Smith is 215 now and only a sophmore. This dude is likey going to be a 225-230 LB next year.

I am just telling you that's what has been discussed by the LB and others in the videos where they ask about the "striker" position.

They still have a basic 4-3 package with a SAM, Mike and Will. The responsibilities of the SAM are different that the striker. They are two different positions.

They have two separate depth charts for SAM and Striker.

2016 was actually more of a 4-2-5. A legit 4-2-5 would be with jaquan playing the star and carter or hall taking his spot at ss or hall playing star.

It's a modified 4-2-5, but remains one nonetheless.

Just because the LB is subbed for "special LB" , i.e. a hybrid player instead of a pure DB doesn't mean it is not "really" a 4-2-5.

It's an adjustment to which transforms the classic 4-2-5 into a viable base defense.

Quan and Redwine at Safety
Jackson and Dean on the outside with Bandy in the slot
And I'd expect 1 LB, probably Shaq, along with someone like Derrick Smith or Finley

If they go quads on 3rd and long, I'd have Pinckney in the middle. If it's 3rd and medium, Shaq should be in the game.

Regardless, if LSU spends a lot of time in quads on Sunday night, they're gonna get killed. The only chance they have is to line up and run the ball down Miami's throats. If they average 3 a carry and Burrow is in 3rd and long all night, it's a wrap.

I'll believe the 4-wide with Joe Burrow when I see it; think they will try to chin check us at least early. Bethel and Willis better be eating their Wheaties.

I think we can expect to see them going 4 wide with their top WR in the slot fairly often. Just to get the matchup they THINK they want. All this.. opening up the offense talk is bs. I think they'll send guys in motion, only to try to dink and dunk based on matchups with running plays (mostly draws) sprinkled in until we stop them. Nothing flashy, nothing downfield. They want to turn it into a field position battle. They're gonna do everything they can to keep the clock from stopping.
