What offense coordinator with any respect would even work for Manny Diaz?????

everybody and they mama knows manny will get fired next year prob midseason. What offense coordinator wants to sign for that for a quick paycheck?

This is the sad truth. The time for a homerun hire was last year.

This year we will have to settle for a former OC/HC with "experience" but a mixed track record (basically another Penos) or an offensive assistant or OC from a good program with little to no playing call experience who is anxious to make a name for himself (basically another Coley).

I say gamble on a young assistant/OC from the right coaching tree and pedigree.

For all of you who expect a homerun hire, you are delusional! When has the U ever hired anyone who was a clearcut homerun hire at the time of hire??? Not Jimmy, not Schnelly, not Butch. They were gambles who ended up, in hindsight, being homerun hires. That's the way the U rolls, and it's not going to change anytime soon.

We need to gamble on someone young and motivated from the Mike Leach coaching tree, playcalling experience a plus. These guys produce wherever they go. Let's not hire a has-been like Fedora or Applewhite. If these has-beens were any good they wouldn't be looking for a job, plain and simple.

LETS GO CANES!!!

Schnelly wasnt a HR hire? wtf are you talking about???

In hindsight he was a HR hire. But at the time of his hire as a head coach he had a bad track record as a head coach. He went 4-10 with the Colts and got fired after three games the following season after going 0-3. If the U hired someone like that today the fans would be outraged.

After that he went back to what he was good at, being Shula's OC, not to being a HC. It's at the U where he finally proved that he had what it takes to be the head man in charge, a formula the U has relied on time and time again, with mixed results. We are a stepping stone program for coaches, not a destination program. I wish it were otherwise but that's the way things are and how they will continue to be.

Mark my words: The next OC will not be a homerun hire with a proven track record; it will be a young up and comer trying to cut his teeth, or someone with experience but a mixed track record trying to prove that he still has it or that he finally figured things out.

In the NFL dude. If we hired a former NFL HC who had won a ring under say Urban Meyer or Saban as an OC (howard was bear bryants OC at Bama), and a ring as an OC in the NFL, Id be ******* ecstatic, as should everyone else.

Instead, people would rather hire nerds who pretend to be Tony Montana.

More than likely someone who has never called plays before and wants to prove themselves. Or someone who wants to live in Miami and knows they can get another job after

Yes like Bill Bedenbaugh. Dude says he wants to call plays. Nothing to lose by going to Miami. Even if Diaz gets fired he'll get another OC job. Its also a good audition to show other teams he's more than a glorified OL coach and can call plays. Win win. Makes too much sense.

Id be all in with him. He’d take over the OL and open up a spot for a real ST coach as well. Makes too much sense for it to ever happen though.

Ok so I'll throw you Howard for argument's sake. You make several good points, even though I will say that hiring him was kind of like hiring Charlie Weiss if you think about it, and we all know how well that went for ND.

With that said, did we ever again make a splash hire like that at the HC position since 1978?? Jimmy couldn't beat OU before he came to Miami; Dennis had never won 10 games; Butch, Elmer Fudd, Radio, and Mandy weren't even head coaches; Richt's best days were behind him; and Golden had never coached a real program. What makes you think we will now make a splash hire at the OC position?? Especially when Mandy Dead Man Walking Diaz is at the helm???

35 years of data say we won't.

You’d have to realistically think if your an OC and you come in here and build say a top 30 offense, Miami probably wins 9-10 games. Thus saving Manny’s job and positioning you better for future gigs. It’s a high profile job, with a ton of untapped potential. Herman is a lame duck coach and he’s getting a who’s who to interview. Helton has been well discussed. It’s foolish to think Miami isn’t high on a lot of these guys lists.

Bedenbaugh would be a great hire. Reminds me of Shawn Clark from App State, who recently became the HC there after coordinating App State's run game and coaching their OL for 3 years. Our OL would be well coached, and our playbook explosive.
