What now / Moving Forward

As of this moment, there is no portal period scheduled for post spring. There is only one scheduled for January. In other words, lane is saying let me finish the season or else you’re going to go into the playoffs (or not if the committee decides to let em out) with backups and third stringers and grad assistants calling plays.
I still think you call his bluff. Are players really going to put in all that work this season to get to the playoffs to opt out for lane? The same man that's threatening to destroy that hard work?

Which relative are you? Only a relative can be that blind
you have to be blind not seeing he raised the program from ashes to a playoff contender, totally flipped the roster and recruiting in a few years
hes the right man for the job and is doing great as the CEO

Do I question his gameday approach, sure, hes Butch Davis to me, remember the guy dumb canes fans flew banners to fire once.

Cam's play was key to us taking that next step last year.

Our coach capitalized on that somehow and repeated the 10 wins. In the midst of all of that, I see a program that's been heavily rebuilding their brand and gaining trust with potential players.

I'm not gonna pretend like we've had an automatic 10 win roster year after year after year, because that simply hasn't been the case. We're beginning to get there.

OU, Alabama, and Virginia all had 10 win seasons as well, but they all seem to be on the inside looking out.

Texas was #1 Preseason but ended up with 3 losses, and are trying to state their case. Penn State fell off a cliff.

In the end you just gotta decide whether the glass is half-empty or half-full. Your call but if it's half-empty, I'd sure love to know the coach that's available and would do much better rebuilding and winning.

The gripes you have,...the honest truth is the portal and NIL has drastically lessened the degrees of separation between #5 to #15 in the country and the only way to sensibly make things any fairer is an expanded playoff.
First name the year UVA won 10, I’d be shocked if it was within the last decade.

We have a top NIL game, we have a down conference, we have more athletes and players than the other teams 11 out of 12 times we line up. We a good coach away from being dominant.

My gripe arent just gripes. It’s a hard truth and look at our program. Discount all u want, we are just good enough to get a mention. Nothing more.

I wanna find out; hopefully we do find out because Ole Miss isn’t about to have a change of heart on an issue they’ve been talking about ad nauseam for the past month. It’s also a source of pride thing.

That we can agree on. The messier it is the better for us lol on top of the entertainment

I’m sure there will be a bunch of threads on this. 10-2 with wins over ND UF FSU. Great season. Back to back 10 wins fo first time in forever and the talent is there (especially the freshmen). I figured we were one of best 12 teams in the country and after watching today I think we all feel validated with that sentiment.

Firstly, **** our luck. It sucks.

Secondly, **** those “just beat SMU” people. Bama lost to FSU. So many teams lose to bad teams and are not punished like us.

Now, if we get left out of the playoffs (we shouldn’t be):

You DECLINE the bowl invite and you CANCEL the game against ND next year. You leave the ACC.

That’s all
Leave the ACC and go WHERE? This isn't a video game, there is absolutely no path forward for this University that involves going independent. Never mind the fact that we wouldn't have anyone to play, we would also be dooming our other sports. There's a reason why ND is the last major team to be independent, it's impossible to do in modern college football...

It's so ******* obvious what needs to happen, what needs to be done. Within a couple of days, the ACC will have exactly two ranked teams...

Well when you put it like this,.. it’s pretty GD clear who the two best teams are and should meet for the championship. But,..if Bulls could fly, we would be knee deep in Bulls**t. Which is where the ACC is anyway, so Why Not?

Our recruiting class is below average, so IDK about that. We lose Bain, Messidor, etc and none of the freshman coming in are that level.
Below average is a crazy statement . Plus we’ve seen in the 2025 class how big the hit rate was with the freshman regardless of the rankings

The "grant of rights" penalty and the "exit fee" have now been combined into one. The cost would be high, but would be one-time. It makes sense if we are landing in the Big 10 or SEC. Not sure if makes any economic sense to join the Big 12. Going Independent would be suicide, because it would be almost impossible to schedule enough strong teams to impress the CFPC, particularly if we include "dropping Notre Dame" into that mix.

We made our bed, now we have to keep lying in that bed for a while.

Yep. Can’t lose to mediocre teams. Even their playing to protect their sisters cherry.

I cant see us having another Bain/Mesidor combo on defense...but improving our LB room is definitely feasible and should result in similar end results. Offensively we could definitely mimic what happened this year, while Toney is here at least.
This is why you recruit. We’re not FSU who built transfer team for a one year run. Losing two first round talents at DE always hurts but when you fill their spots with guys like Blount, Lowe and Lightfoot, it eases the burden.
