What now / Moving Forward

I suspect most of our key players will skip the bowl game. It’s the norm now. Unfortunately that means a 10-3 season.
I can see canceling ND next season as a better way to show our disappointment with the CFP.

Perhaps my own delusion, I feel this could be a catalyst to reinforce the true “us against the world” mentality that has been wholly suppressed by this admin for far too long.

I’m happy with the performance yesterday, felt great.

Cancel Notre Dame and move forward with a chip on our shoulders. Throw more money towards NIL.
No. Don't do that. People come to Miami BECAUSE they want to play at South Bend in a Canes uniform in a Marquee Game in Prime Time. We'd be shooting ourselves in the foot if we ran away from the Irish like that.

Stealing a game from the Irish at South Bend, literally stealing their pride, is one reason why guys come here to strap on the "U" helmet.

We can’t decline the bowl game but we can cancel our game with ND and we should. I would love to leave the ACC. I think it’s a lot of money though @TheOriginalCane would know the buyout cost. I would rather be independent. Or in th Big 12. This piece of **** conference didn’t stand up for us this past week or so regarding ND and our ranking in the playoff bracket and now they have a 5 loss Duke team in the ACCCG.
It’s amazing we can’t somehow get out of the ACC at this point regardless of whatever the **** we signed in 2016 likely not knowing how insanely ****ed college football would be only 9 years later. Like there’s no legal “loophole” (for lack of a better term) we can argue or use to get out at minimal expenses? Can we just show a jury the SMU game and let them decide? There’s enough injustices in that game alone..

I get this sentiment, but that is a massive mistake

If we replaced a Notre Dame with a UCF as an example, a power 4 team, and we did everything else the same, including blowing those two games we would be way further back on the rankings and on all the metrics and with the ACC being ***, we would have an even harder time getting into the playoffs playoff then we just did against the SEC

I get the point but honestly be careful what you wish for. It’s not a good strategy whatsoever.

Huge financial loss too in tv revenue from that game... ND/Miami would be a huge draw nation wide

It’s just that easy. Poof, out we go!

10th isn't good enough.
Didn’t Mario just show us with the 2025 class that rankings don’t mean ****? Give me good football players who fit the scheme and care and we will be good. Of course we will take the 5 star freaks when they want to come here but class rankings don’t mean anything other than for fans to puff their chest.

I know it's not common or preferred, but what would you have had them do?

They both had an open slot due to opponents canceling. If they add "Bethune-Cookman", then their strength of schedule plummets.

I hope it never happens again, but I'm not mad at UVa/NC State. **** happens.

Again, ACC leaders and various university ADs need to plan out the rules and scenarios for tiebreakers...a bit better...a LOT better...

If you **** well know that a new "expansion" to 12 teams (and new rules) have been implemented, rules in which a P4 conference champion MIGHT be excluded, you have to take action to guard against that doomsday scenario, as it will cost you over $15M in revenue (and probably more in the future).

Make it clear in the "tiebreaker" language that only teams ranked in the Top 25 at a certain date may be considered for the championship game slots.

Period.

Problem fixed.

Duke would be "out" of the tiebreaker scenarios based on that simple change in language.

I'd have had them schedule a team that is not in our conference, despite us knowing "it's not common or preferred" to fill a slot at the last moment.

"**** happens."

The ACC "leaders" and their brain dead "ADs" are on the hook for this travesty.

They failed the players, the fans, and the sport as a whole.

Duke should be out, but the inept morons that run the show didn't have the wherewithal to do the right thing.

They gambled, and we lost.

Shame on them. They failed the fans, the sport, and most importantly, the players (nothing new there).

Then the ACC needs to pressure Notre Dame to join the conference. People aren’t coming to Miami to play in the Pop Tart bowl every year. Scheduling Notre Dame is a lose/lose situation if they aren’t in the conference. The Bowl era is over. It’s about making the playoffs. If you want to make the playoffs scheduling Notre Dame is the ultimate shooting of one’s foot.

We are not canceling the ND game either.

What P4 team could fill those slots? Particularly as the SEC and Big 10 go to 9-conference-game schedules.

I keep trying to tell people...the college football landscape is quite different than it was 40 years ago.
Why do we need to fill a slot with a P4 team?

Miami’s only path to the playoffs is thru the ACC-CG. That’s it. The committee isn’t putting an at large ACC team in over any SEC/B10 team. Playing ND doesn’t help Miami at all, and only helps ND.

Why are we helping ND?

If the ACC moves to 9 conference games, that’s even less reason to play a non conference P4.

Lol at cancelling ND game. The ND game is literally the only reason we are even relevant in the discussion right now. Win the **** games you are supposed to win favored by double digits. With our weak *** schedule next year, we will need that game and will need to win it, again. When we inevitably lose to someone we aren’t supposed to. That game will be the only game keeping us alive, again.

This isn’t 1988. People come here to get paid and with the hopes of going pro.

Nope. The metric has been set. We can only lose one game per season. Notes Dame can lose two. They are telling us to schedule cupcakes and we are afforded one boneheaded conference loss. That’s the formula…because that is how it keeps playing out.

The ND game will be one of the most watched in the 2026 season. We benefit based on the rev share model. Take them on and beat the crap out of them again.
All that game does is help ND get into the playoff. It does absolutely nothing to help UM, as it’s obvious an ACC team’s only path to the playoff is thru the championship game.

We survived without ND on the schedule for 7 seasons. I think we’ll be ok.

Wrong.
Our ONLY path to the playoff is thru the ACC championship game. Putting ND on our schedule only helps ND.

What they’re really telling us is that we need to win the conference to get in.
