What needs to change?

I keep hearing this, but what are the examples of special teams costing us a game? We had a freshman punter that while suspect early, actually had his best game in the ACCCG and bowl game, our icker was not exactly clutch, but how do you pin that on the coach?

Did you not watch the FSU vs UM game in 2016?

Whose decision was it to try that 54 yd. FG vs Wisky?

Also, our KOR Defense was ranked 106th, and we were tied for 58th in KOR Offense...horrible numbers for a Miami team.

Thomas is a dog, but he ain't it at KR. Think Homer needs to take over full time.

He's made a 57 yarder before. It was a good call.

Better QB play from whoever is playing.

Defense needs to score on more turnovers.

Some blocked kicks and punts and big plays both ways on special teams.

Defense needs to finish the job on third down.

Big time players on both sides of the line need to make the big time plays that come there way more often.

We have never been the big physical team and that will not change, but we were the mos vicious team on defense and special teams. That needs to return.

Bama needle game as good as their bag game.

Their players go from HS players to full grown men inside of 6 months of getting on campus. That kind of development ain’t coming from just weights and eating right.

When we can compete in the trenches with them we will be winning NC again.

This. Them players have to be on the juice. I’ve never seen anything like it.

Have you seen the kids they recruit?
They're grown men coming out of high school.

I agree that plays a role but even their "smaller" or "thiner" ones get jacked. Isn't their Strength Coach a nut job too?

- Overall Physicality.
When "Will Miami play with the same physicality they had vs ND" is a main talking point (or key to the game) in the pregame then your team ain't physically enough. We should be able to sleepwalk and physically overwhelm Pitt, UNC, Syracuse, UVa, GT, Duke. We don't have any brute strength IMO.

- Teaching Physicality
I don't see our defensive player get physical with WR/TEs. During the Alabama-Clemson game they asked an Alabama player "What are you going to do to stop the play makers on Clemson?" and the player responded by saying "we're going to put our hands on 'em." Thats what I don't see from us. To many times we give WR/TE free releases (in man or zone) and we don't disrupt the timing or reroute them AT ALL. I low-key want to see our CB/LB mug WR/TEs. Other teams have been mugging our players all year yet we don't mug theirs. Our WRs have been mugged in countless games and DL has been held all year and nothing gets called.. like they say.. if you can't beat 'em join 'em. Lets see how great they are when we play by their rules.

- Great running game.
We need a great running game so it doesn't necessary matter who is the QB if we can be one of the best running teams in the country (Like ND earlier in the season). I want to be less reliant on QBs and more reliant on a physical running game kinda like Wisconsin, Clemson etc. Tired of 3rd and 1 or 2 and we can't get it running the ball. It ridiculous.

- Better run defense.
41st run defense. F***ing Oregon finished with a better run defense then we did. That's a F***ing embarrassment.

- Not make average QB look like Tom Brady vs us.
We always try to make excuses for these QBs who go off on us. "He had the game of his life!" Enough of that. Make bad QB look back. Like we did that Syracuse QB. How can we seriously become a title contender when this is a constant trend?

-SPECIAL TEAMS
The biggest joke on our team. Place kicking? ***. Punting? ***. Kick Coverage? ***. We do nothing even at an average level on special team.

- Recruiting.
Obviously.

I would have specifically called out the OL with regards to improving the run game, but you're spot on. All of these are things we need to be doing better.

Special teams is a problem. Hartley cannot retain those duties after the last 2 years.

I keep hearing this, but what are the examples of special teams costing us a game? We had a freshman punter that while suspect early, actually had his best game in the ACCCG and bowl game, our icker was not exactly clutch, but how do you pin that on the coach?

You don't have to literally miss the game winning FG to affect the outcome. Sometimes that miss in the 2nd Q is the difference. Field position is a big deal as well, and we give too much of it away both kicking and receiving.

I like to see CMR stop congratulating GA, it’s not GA gave us an congrats prior to the orange bowl or any other time for that matter

Qb play
More efficient offense in the red zone and on 3rd down
Defense fixing 3rd down issues
Diaz calling too much soft coverage
Oline needs to continue to get stronger
Linebackers need to step their game up. They regressed overall from a year ago

We aren't competing for anything without better QB play, dependent run game and a defensive line that can cause havoc (based on our scheme). seeing as we just lost our entire defensive line, we probably aren't competing next year. Just keeping it 100. We will be about the same as this year

The trickle down effect of a better offensive line and specifically the run game is a partial remedy to a lot of our problems. Will help limit our punters opportunity to shank one, open the passing windows a little bit by forcing the defense to respect it, will reduce the time of possession for the opponent and fatigue of the defense.

We have got to get better at running the ball when they know we are running the ball like third and short. Shocking how little push we get up front.

BIGGEST CHANGES:

1.) OL Play - We need an influx of talent (so far so good, need 1 more tackle at least) and great development of the guys we have. They need to get push and open up huge holes. Both Sony and Chubb are great players, but on a bunch of their runs they have huge holes. We need that sort of push and are not getting it regardless of competition.

2.) QB Play - We have the weapons in Receivers coming into the 2018 season, so what we really need is an accurate passer. The last few games, especially, Rosier was very inaccurate and even on completions (Thomas completion Wisiconsin) they were not very accurate and didn't let our play makers work with the ball in space. Also, Rosier would constantly get the ball tipped at the line, that needs to change

3.) Play Calling- BOTH Offense and Defense. I still don't understand why we did not run more plays to the TE when we had Njoku and Chris. Especially this year when Richards was out we should of featured our TE, until the defense sold out on him then we could take the deep pass. Although Jordan and Mallory are just Freshman, I think they should also get a ton of touches. Also, less go routes and more slants and motions on 3rd down. It seems every 3rd and more than 5 we are telling all out players to just run. On defense it seems every third down we switch to zone and they are able to get an easy completion. Play man to man with the CBs and then switch it up with the safeties, we should have no problem competing against the WR of the Coastal.

4.) Special Teams: All aspects needs work. Feagles played very well against Wisconsin and was consistent, he needs to continue working and make sure not to shank any more kicks. Buba is a FR kicker that is coming in and I'm not going to lie I am a bit nervous his HS stats didn't blow me away. Lastly, the blocking on the kick returns are as bad as I've ever seen. Constantly there would be three people on the ball by the 15 yard line. Horrible and needs a lot of work.

A QB that can hit passes down field consistently enough to back a D up would help.

Need to cut dead weight off with the staff and start recruiting in the trenches beter .

Biggest need is OL. #2 is QB play. #3 is DB quality/depth. #4 is physical toughness overall.

This. It all starts up front with the big boys. We seem to always have one, maybe two really good offensive linemen but it's been a long time since we had a line with future NFL players at every position.
