What it Takes to FEED the MIAMI HURRICANES | AthlEATS

When you have budgets in the HUNDREDS of millions of dollars, of course you are going to have a lot more to work with. That said, past a certain point, it’s waste. Miami would like to have a larger nutrition staff, but if there are other more pressing, immediate needs then those will be attacked first. Honestly, it’s amazing that colleges have so many make work jobs in their athletic departments(Pro franchises don’t have huge teams of nutritionists on staff), but they have to burn through the money somehow as nonprofits.

I’ve always believed that if these schools had to pay the athletes a market based salary, these extravagant facilities and staffs would be significantly reduced. Amazing what you can build when you don’t have to pay the talent.

You can’t compare professional teams w/ Universities.

1. Professional teams don’t nearly have the same amount of athletes to care for. U’re talking about a NBA team w/ a maximum of 15 players, NFL teams w/ an active 53 man roster, MLB of 26 players, NHL of 23 players. The University is responsible for 100’s of student athletes, all w/ different nutritional requirements.

2. Professional players are making millions! They often have their own personal trainers, nutritionist, chefs who are specializing & focusing on the athlete that’s paying them directly.

3. Lol; do u really think schools are just spending “hundred’s” of millions on nutrition? Nebraska is on the higher side of spending $3.3m/yr in nutrition, but they also have more student athletes than we do. The avg. is roughly around $1.5m at the P5 level. We’re not Akron, FIU, or The Citadel holmes…we might not have Texas money, but there’s this back & forth narrative that has to stop to justify certain things.

One minute we can’t afford what UGA, Bama, Clemson etc are doing, & then the next, we got big bank $$. Choose one & stick to that.

Pimp, was literally waiting for u to chime in. I KNOW how u feel about Kyle & I 100% agree w/ u. Man, when my lil cousin played for Auburn in the mid 2000’s this was their nutrition. It’s like our program is from the late 2000’s -early 2010’s. I’ve seen Bama’s nutritional program, just saw Deestroy’s tour of UGA’s facility & saw their nutritional program & it’s like holllllllllly chit.

But glad we’re investing in this dept, HOWEVER, w/ the 9 yrs worth of intel under Kyle, just really surprised he’s still the lead man.
I hate UGA with a passion, but I've eaten there with players b4, and it's absolutely amazing. I had no idea how far behind we've been until several years ago. Glad to know we're getting things caught up to the 21st century 🙌

Selective reading, like selective outrage is exhausting . The point I’m making is that schools like LSU, UGA, etc. athletic department budgets can easily stretch into the 9 figure range. When you have that kind of budget, you can do a ton, especially compared to a school whose budget is at most 80-90 million(and I’m working from the assumption that we underreport our figures because we don’t have to show our work publicly)

In any business, labor tends to be the most expensive thing. Colleges aren’t paying the talent, opens up a lot of funds for things like teams of nutritionists, and facilities that would make the NFL envious. These huge state schools are making money hand over fist and spend like drunken sailors, comparing anyone to them is a fools errand.

Miami doesn’t have LSU money, but we aren’t poor, I didn’t say anything to the contrary. That said, Miami is going to approach pressing needs urgently and then attack areas of opportunity as needed. Compared to much needed facility improvements, adding a ton of nutritional staff is a want, not a pressing need. If Mario asks for it, Rad will likely make it happen, but compared to us not having anyone on staff, it’s not nearly as pressing as it was 10 years ago. In a perfect world, Miami would have a nutritionist for every sport but that’s a financial commitment that is not at the top of the list if you have to prioritize.

I am of the mind that Bellamy should be demoted if not outright fired if what has been disclosed is fully accurate, spend for a better guy. If you aren’t going to have a huge staff at least get someone worth a ****.

Selective reading this guy says. Lol. If I’m the master of “selective reading” u’re the grand master of making excuses for this school.

How about this; how about the reason Miami is far behind is due to letting little things like Nutrition become so subpar that it’s now a bigger issue than u’re appreciating. We’ve constantly fielded a poor, physically built team for better part of a decade. Our teams have struggled w/ lesser programs due to one-part coaching (a school problem), one-part talent evaluation (a staff problem) & one part nutrition/S&C (a school/coach problem).

U see, when u handle chit that’s controllable, it won’t become a bigger problem. Btw, who’s comparing Miami to LSU or any other state program? I swear some of ya’ll live in a bubble & love to fall back on that private vs. state school bull chit. U don’t need to be filthy rich as a program to invest in nutrition, my guy! Again, the avg. cost for nutrition across the entire AD is about $1.3-1.5 w/ a few schools doubling that figure.

Furthermore, the profitable schools have all one thing in common, a semblance of dedication & commitment to the Athletic Dept from the top down. Baylor is a small, Christian private school. Do u think they’re using that as an excuse to properly feed all their athletes & field one of the best, pound for pound athletic depts in the nation? What about TCU? Like what or who r u really trying fool here?

Listen, u’re an alum & I get that u feel it’s ur sacred duty to defend this school’s & ur Alma Mater’s **** poor decision making to the death, but when A FORMER FOOTBALL PLAYER is on this thread stating the exact obvious that MANY CASUAL FANS can see, how bout u stop & say “****, maybe I’m off on this one.” We don’t need ur white knighting **** near every thread. There’s 0.0 excuses for any P5 school to have a subpar nutritional program, ESPECIALLY when all that “Adidas $$” that came in, remember. Lol.

I've long said that while Miami isn't Texas or Bama rich, they're not some dirt poor school either. I think the problems in the past and falling behind in facilities was mainly due to the school/administration being cheap.
A lot of the powers that be wrongfully thought that just because Miami had won with the old way, they could continue to do so. Never rest on your laurels. The arms race was the state schools leveraging their resources to drown us and we refused to reach for a life preserver.
