What I'm seeing and hearing...

Idk you really think Dawson leaves after the year? I’m leaning on him staying
If he left last year, he be a hot commodity, this year, doing less with more. The scary part, Cam getting out of plays that were called last year, Beck doesn't, runs what's called, yikes.

This is where I'm at. I'm a keyboard warrior over here, but imagine being the staff or the players, and you've been asked to grind and put in all the work, "like men," lol, and this is the result. This post pretty much just disappointed the **** out of me. What faith can you have in this HC coaching staff to turn anything around, this season or any season for that matter. RIP Canes

Hey Danny, nice, balanced post. I'm with you in general but a few nits...

1) Brock has been an issue but Carpenter was no great shakes either and he didn't seem to be the liability that Brock is. My theory is twofold - one, we are more predictable on offense which makes certain defensive looks more problematic for our OL (crashing defenders, stacked boxes, etc). If Carpenter were in the lineup this year, I think you'd find similar issues. Second, I don't know that LG is that problematic. McCoy was one year younger last year and he was fine. I think many of his issues stem from the kind of defensive fronts we're facing on predictable plays. Can they both be better? Sure. Are they the reason for the bad running game? Nah.

2) as "self aware" as folks inside the building say they are, there's one person who isn't - Mario. He talks a lot about self scouting but his mantra to his team in general is "have to execute better".

3) Lastly, you know, I know, we all know that "let it rip" is coachspeak for "we'll sprinkle a few new plays here and there". At the end of the day, Mario ain't a "let it rip" coach. His 10+ years as HC tell us as much.
One thing that is missing from last year, Jalen Rivers, I remember when he went down last year, and things didn't work so smoothly.

1. Mario needs to fire the OL Coach.

2. Mario needs a 100% hands off approach. Head Coach, Recruiting, Spokesperson, NIL, Portal, and having position coach on give a recap of the Game Plan for the week 0% input.

3. Hire a OC who doesn't believe in taking his foot off the gas. Who has a dominate inside and outside run game strategy. Innovative in the pass game. Rotate players to keep our players fresh and injury free.

4. Tell Heathermen he wants more press coverage. We press every play. We rotate our guys keep them fresh and injury free. Best player plays.

5. We have enough talent on Offense to win the ACC btw. Even our "disappointments" can be stars in the ACC.
Isn't Mario deeply involved with OL, which makes these penalties more insane.

We ran 4 wide a couple times and actually ran the ball well.. Mario wouldnt let us go 4 wide exclusively, he doesnt like it and will put OL in 80 digit jersey to play WR if we try to get more Olineman in those sets.

We should do it more because Bauman is a waste and Lofton is first ballot Greentree HOF.. He is skipping AA because of hype.
4 wide work right off the bat against Stanford, got to the red zone, got right back to our normal set, brought Lyle in got stuff. Didn't see the 4 wide rest of the evening.

I don’t think it’s an average unit. I think most teams in America would take our guys, save a handful like Texas A&M and Utah.

But they are definitely underperforming. The penalties are killing us every game.
If the line is underperforming and if most teams would swap our line, than it’s the OL coach.

I’m curious if his preferred blocking technique is also why we don’t do a lot of sweeps/off tackle runs.

If we came out on 3rd and 2 in 10 or 11 personnel in the shotgun, the defense would literally have to call a timeout. That's how utterly blown away they'd be by seeing that in that situation. Like, holy ****, we didn't even consider we'd see this when we game-planned.

But no, 26 times in a row, we've lined up in 13, like it's 1945, and run the ball into the A-gap.

13 times in a row against SMU, in all short yardage situations (ANY down and 3 or less to go), we ran the ball. All 13 times.

Sorry, that ain't Beck. That's coaching malpractice.

As a matter of fact, on 1st and goal from the 4, we lined up in heavy, ran play-action, and it was the easiest TD of Beck's life. Would we ever do that again in any short yardage situation? No. We would not. Because, it worked, incredibly easily (OF COURSE IT DID YOU ACTUALLY DID SOMETHING DIFFERENT). So why do it ever again?

I think its either two things, Beck is not fully healthy to throw the deep ball, or they dont trust him to throw deep.
if SMU was in cover 3 95% of the time, I assume they respect our deep passing game, we did smoke FSU over the top.

Ive never been sold on Dawson. His passing route combinations always look bizarre when you see them in person. We rarely have wide receivers get separation on their initial routes.

Last year we were blessed to have perhaps the best scramble ball QB of the past 25 years. Most of Ward's passing yards came in the scramble ball phase of the play.
Most of cam yards came from in structure not scrambling

He was elite at diagnosing the defense pre snap and getting the ball out quick and on time to beat the defense and create explosive play opportunities, he was also elite at creating out of structure when it wasn’t there

And we had better and more experienced WRs, our wrs created way more separation last year. Our best separator is a high school senior bro i don’t think people understand how bad that is for a “contending team”

When I saw the scramble comment I just stopped reading. Dudes will make up anything.

People called this oline the best oline we have had since the early 2000s. Only francis will get drafted and it won’t be first round like this board assumes

Its insane bro. Like they may not mean malice but its like they don’t understand why he was great lmao..If you look by his numbers even at wazzu he was significantly worse when he didn’t get the ball out quick

Nobody loves midseason mock drafts like miami fans do lol

Two great college coaches that were OL

Barry and Bo- since the 80s and 90s, the HC ranks have been tanked over by former DBs, WRs, and mostly QBs. Don’t get me wrong, there are some OL like Mario, Keys, and in the NFL Campbell. Just not a ton of success since the 80s and 90s.

I’m excited to see this OL change his stripes mid season and let it rip for 4 games.
