Spoke to sources this afternoon following the Jatori Williams decommitment. Here is the latest:

- Jatori's decommitment took us by surprise. Miami loves the person and the player. Any suggestion that this was a drop couldn't be further from the truth. This is a Deep South recruiting battle with distance working against us. I expect Miami to keep pushing for Williams full-throttle like they always do with priority recruits.

- When I talk to Miami, the overall sense is excitement and ambition. They are still focused on Plan A+ and not any Plan Bs or Cs. We've been pushing for OT Mark Matthews through his commitment to Texas A&M and haven't slowed down. The Aggies' struggles certainly help. This will be a back-and-forth battle but Miami is playing to win. Money was never the issue.

- EDGE DJ Jacobs remains the biggest focus on defense. Jaiden Bryant, Miami's five-star EDGE commit, is having a dominant senior season. The goal is to pair Bryant and Jacobs as instant-impact pass rushers to replace whatever premium players we lose. DJ and his brother Dawson Jacobs (who is a big 2028 target) are visiting for the Pitt game. Expect the red carpet.

- The name with a lot of juice right now is five-star WR Brysen Wright. I like Miami's momentum here and this weekend's visit is a huge opportunity.

- Expect some movement in and out of the class. This staff is always monitoring senior tape. Two names playing very well: Aston Whiteside (Texas A&M commit) and Quinton Cypher (Ohio State commit).

- The Portal is a long way away, but I suspect Miami will be firmly play for any NFL-type defensive tackle prospects.

 

And MJC and now Williams. I don't actually think Auburn is shoving us in a locker, they have just gotten the better of us in some key battles recently.

Auburn is simply paying more! Why else would a kid pick Auburn over Miami? C'mon now!

The NCAA in all their wisdom has the portal closing before the championship game this year so we will have to adjust otherwise we won't grab anyone from the portal. Still not sure why they don't just make the portal be in May if they want to insist on 1 portal window. Probably because it makes things too easy.

He is not physically developed enough to play at the NFL level. He needs another year to work on his body. He can excel against Central Michigan, Stanfords, and Wake Forest - But the NFL is a very different animal. Lightfoot will be highly compensated as. 4th year Senior, with a chance next year to be a 1st rd rdge.

 

If he dominates FSU and ND, then plays well in the playoffs, he has a chance to be a first-rounder. Same goes for Lightfoot. That’s the goal for both of them

Idk why fans aren’t rooting harder for these kids to get drafted. It’s time to start becoming an NFL factory, especially on the D-line. We should be sending guys to the first round almost every year now

I want them all to be the next Bain or Mauigoa, 3 and out and a high level first round pick. What I don’t want to see is a guy take a chance at being a low first round pick and fall into the second or third round. I understood it years ago before NIL why guys would take the chance. I’d say the same about J Scott. He needs to come back for another year. There’s still more development there to be done.

They’d be investing in their future. #10 pick is about a 4 year 30 million dollar deal while #32 is a little more than half that at 4yr 16 million. And it drops even more from there. 10 more spots down and your at about 9/10 mil over 4 years.

He will be back unless he just decides to go full GR15 which he's on pace for right now. But he will get paid here and another good year puts him round 1 or early round 2.
